In the last two weeks twice in the early afternoon (1:30 -2:30pm) I have ordered fish and chips, both well done. Both times it is obvious that the fish was dried out and it had been reheated and today the chips were rock hard. In both cases the fish was cold in the middle.Disgusting! Both times I have walked out as the server is rather obnoxious unlike the evening and weekend servers who are extremely nice. This server rather argue with me than apologize. I can't say anything better about a manager there called Mike...arrogant and better suited to a hot dog stand. Having said that, I have had fish and chips there in the evening a totally different 'kettle of fish'...good. It appears this pub has a problem in the afternoon. I suggest not ordering after the lunch hour. There is a big difference between well done and reheated fish and chips. The server and manger should be ashamed. Maybe they think I just stepped off the banana boat! Suggest Amanda B. H.Marketing Manager get in touch . Tonight Jan11 th 2018 three months after my post about this pub I try the pub again. And As I had said previously the night time staff and food were good. I go in sit at the bar get a menu when in my opinion the moron manger MIke who had been a complete idiot before comes up and says I will not be served. Instead of saying saying 'Ok this should be better' He is angry and more intuned to what I had said previously that he was better suited to be at a hot dog stand. I thought I was being generous by saying that at the time now I realize I was wrong. A hot dog stand is beyond his ability. The guy is either a complete moron or racist and I tend to think racist. How in heaven's name did the Duke get this guy as a manager? Most intelligent people in the bar/restaurant business would have been appreciative of someone coming back after two horrible meals . But then then it takes intelligence to figure that out which is appears Mike has...
Read moreI visited this restaurant in Midtown last Saturday with four friends after hearing great things about it. We were excited to have a fun weekend meal, but our experience was far from what we had hoped for. From the moment we entered, the welcome was far from warm. The hostess and our server, a young blonde beautiful girl, had a rude attitude. She answered our questions with hostility and seemed very angry, making us feel uncomfortable to the point where we couldn't even order our drinks or food properly.
When I ordered a steak, I specifically asked for my Caesar salad to be served on a separate plate so the temperature difference wouldn't make my steak cold. Unfortunately, they ignored this request and brought everything together on one plate. When I pointed this out, there was no apology.
The worst part was when we asked for the bill to be split. Our server brought all the checks and then literally threw them onto the table, which was extremely disrespectful. Overall, this restaurant felt more like a place where customers are treated poorly. If anyone wants to experience “Karen’s restaurant” , this is the place to go ( google “Karen’s restaurant” for more information). My friends and I have decided we would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, as the food wasn't good either.
To make matters worse, I became seriously ill later that Saturday night, and I'm now on medication and undergoing tests. If it turns out that this illness is food-related, I will pursue this matter legally…
This is the first time I’m giving a restaurant a one-star rating on Google. It’s mostly due to the negative vibe and poor service we received. As a Google Local Guide, I have never given a one-star review before. I always strive to be fair in my feedback. I truly hope the management will consider these issues seriously and make...
Read moreJust one block north of Eglington on Yonge stands this cute looking 2-level British styled pub.
With its dimmed lights both upstairs and downstairs and comfortable booths, the Duke of Kent is a cozy option for both local traffic and pub-goers in the Yonge n Eg area.
We've been here three times, and the service is always great.
VISIT # 1: NYE 2018-ish - We ended up here for drinks after a comedy club. The place was packed, of course for NYE. The vibe was nice, the music was great, and the service was friendly. It was a good way to end a nice night out with friends and ring in the New Year.
VISIT # 2: HALLOWEEN 2019 - Five of us met here ( upstairs) for drinks and some apps before we headed out to a Halloween party. Since the party was almost next door, this location was the perfect choice.
VISIT # 3: CANADA DAY 2023 - After games at the nearby Snakes n Lattes, we wanted a change of environment, so we ended up here. Once again, it was a nice way to end the evening and celebrate our Independence Day.
FYI - The food here is pretty good by pub standards. However, we got the worst mojito we've ever had and sent it back. This was my only complaint and the reason I've deducted a star. Hopefully, next time, the bar will be more up to speed with its cocktails.
To end this review on a positive note, the staff here is quite friendly, and we enjoyed the Sticky Toffee Pudding...
