Nestled in the heart of Kensington Market, Eat Nabati - Plant-based Egyptian Street Food is a sanctuary for authentic and satisfying bites.
The charming decor inside and a handful of tables outside create a delightful and calming atmosphere, perfectly complementing the culinary experience. The service echoes friendliness, patience, and genuine helpfulness, exemplified by a staff member's thoughtful act of swatting away pesky bees during my outdoor meal and ensuring my food remained impeccable inside—a gesture that left a lasting and appreciative impact.
Egyptian Falafel: Fava Bean Falafel in a Pita Indulge in crunchy, flavorful falafel nestled in a pita, adorned with beet tahini, hummus, lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickled vegetables. The addition of beet tahini provides a unique and delicious twist, making each bite radiate with flavor and freshness.
Beef Baba Shawarma: A bowl of authenticity featuring rice, hummus, lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickled vegetables. While not stealing the spotlight like the falafel, it boasts well-cooked rice and an overall commendable balance of flavors and textures. A side of pita would have elevated the experience.
I couldn't resist the allure of Eat Nabati and visited twice during my short Toronto stay. If I were a local, I'd embark on a mission to savor the entire menu. Eat Nabati stands as a gem in Kensington Market—a place deserving of revisits. The pricing is reasonable, and its convenient location adds to the overall appeal.

Read moreA group of 4 of us went there at 8pm on a Saturday. Google and their instagram account both show a closing time of 9pm.
As we placed our orders, the person taking our order seemed annoyed that we were ordering food. In an attempt to discourage us from ordering, he let us know we were not going to be allowed to eat our food inside. To his dismay, we said ok, no problem, we'll eat outside (it was a beautiful summer night). We got our food, took it outside. Around 8:40pm, the doors to restaurant were still open and the lights were on. Two of us wanted to wash our hands.
As my friend walked towards the bathroom, the same person who took our order asked my friend what she was doing. She said, "I was just here a few minutes ago and want to use the washroom". He said "I dont remember you". (obviously untrue).
My friend said, "It says online that you close at 9pm so I'm not sure what the problem is" and he said "be quick".
After she was finished, I went to use the washroom and he tried to refuse me. Luckily, another (female) staff member was there and said it was fine for me to use it.
It was very clear that the staff wanted to leave from the time that we walked in at 8pm.
While the food was decent, I wouldn't go back to this spot based on the pathetic customer service.
UPDATE: the owner reached out promptly after reading this review to rectify the issue. She was...

I wish there was a way for me to upload a photo because if you could see the amount of food that we got for $25 you would be shocked too. This place looks like a restaurant, but operates like a cafeteria. We seated ourselves and got our own menu. We then placed our order at the counter and paid up front. Thankfully we did not leave a tip. Being a vegan, and loving Egyptian food, I really wanted to enjoy my experience. However I'm sorry to say that this place fell short on many levels. Our food took forever to arrive and when it did we were handed a single set of cutlery. To be clear, this is plastic cutlery wrapped in even more plastic. Our lemonade came in a plastic cup, however the straw was paper. This is vegan washing, when you claim to support the vegan lifestyle but continue to operate very unsustainably. The food was tasty but I cannot consciously pay that amount of money for such a little quantity ever again. Nor can I return to a place that continues to serve its customers in single-use plasticthe food was tasty but I cannot constantly pay that amount of money for such a little quantity ever again.
