Terrible experience and embarrassing. I don’t like to complain but our brunch started out bad and ended much worse with the waitress and her supervisor arguing with me that I ordered 2 full sized breakfast (I am a small woman). Our table of 4 ordered 3 special coffees and a mimosa. The food came out before we received our drinks as it was quite fast, my mimosa came out next and was warm and watery and not fresh squeezed. I tried my eggs Benedict and they were cool, and my side of buttermilk pancakes looked really nice and I commented to the table that I thought the side only had 2 pancakes, it had 3. But I had to get our servers attention because she was not the one who dropped the food. When she came I needed to ask her to warm up my eggs. I had my husband taste the eggs to verify they were cool, as our boys were getting embarrassed that I was sending back food. I kept the warm tasteless mimosa and just asked for a cup of ice. The eggs returned a bit warmer but not hot. I imagine this restaurant makes the eggs ahead of Sunday brunch and keeps them in ice water until ordered and warms them up in warm water prior to serving. The pancakes had to be shared because it was such a large side. After we ate, our dirty dishes sat at the table, the bill came and the waitress pushed my husbands plate over to set it down. I glanced at the bill and saw we were charged 20.99 for the side of pancakes, not 9.99. I told the waitress that I had asked for a side of buttermilk pancakes, and she said I ordered a full order. I repeated that I specifically asked for a side of buttermilk pancakes, she asked with blue berries or chocolate chips and I said no just maple syrup. (The side order is described in menu as buttermilk pancakes and the full order is described as fluffy pancakes) She said well you ate the whole thing. I asked her to change the bill. At this point my boys had to leave the table and wait outside from embarrassment. Next the waitress sent over her supervisor and again she told me I ordered a full order and I said again what I ordered and I was not going to pay for it on principal. So the supervisor took the bill to change and my husband and I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for a revised bill. Another waiter came by and asked if he could remove our dirty dishes. At this point I wanted to just leave the restaurant but our bill was 130.00. So we saw the supervisor and walked over to her asking if we could pay the bill. She did not apologize but then revised the bill and we paid and left. The whole experience left me upset. To sum up the review, the food was delivered to the table as expected but was tasteless, over priced and not thoughtful. The supervisor was poor at customer service and defusing situations. Other customers witness her behavior with our table. The waitress cost herself a 30 tip. I felt a bit bad about not leaving a gratuity as I waitresses for years though college and it’s important to take care of your servers. In this case it was an appropriate amount 0. Bad bad experience to have on my vacation to Toronto. We come often to visit family and friends. This review helps me feel a bit better, and will tell everyone I know not to expect good management, service or hot food or cold drinks at this restaurant. We will never eat here...
Read moreI came across this hidden gem on Instagram a couple of weeks ago and it looked unrealistically pretty from the interior design to their plates. Finally this Saturday, we got a chance to check it out if it’s real. Apparently, it really is!
The location is extremely convenient. We live in the downtown area, so we took a nice walk but if you need to take the subway, it’s so close to Union Station or St Andrew Station. Since I’ve seen lots of reviews about how busy Evviva can get, we got on the waitlist before arrival around 9:15am and the wait time was 1-10min (You can check wait times and get on the waitlist on Yelp). After 7 min, while we were almost at Evviva, we received a message from Yelp that said our table was ready. Yelp was very convenient because there were a few people waiting in front of the door. We walked in and managed to snag a table right away. The hostess, Carolina, was very welcoming and friendly!
We were seated by the window. They have plenty of tables for 2, 4 and groups (booths). The atmosphere was so charming and chic! It really looked like the pics I saw on their Instagram. Loved the interior design and the pink-blue colours.
They have a huge menu and it’s hard to choose only a few dishes! If you are an indecisive person like me, you might have a hard time! I noticed that they have a full vegan menu which is great for a brunch place. Will definitely let my vegan friends know about it! Since we are not vegan, we skipped those pages and ordered New York Steak and Eggs, Hot Buttermilk Pancakes, and Create Your Own Omelette to share. The steak was perfectly cooked based on our specifications and Hot Buttermilk Pancakes were out of the planet! The berry compote made it very flavourful and their maple syrup wasn’t just a regular one that you can get anywhere. The steak and eggs and the omelette normally come with herbed home fries and a fresh green salad but we wanted to get more salad instead of fries. The salad dressing worked beautifully with the greens! The portion sizes were good enough considering that we eat only one meal a day and we were completely full after. Also, the presentations were so pretty! Our server, Abby, was very attentive. Our coffee mugs didn’t even get empty! She was always ready to help even though she had plenty of tables to take care of.
The overall experience was totally worth the money and not pricey. It’s good for cute date plans for couples or family gatherings (They have vegan and traditional kids menus). They take reservations during the week. We will...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Evviva for brunch, and overall, I had a delightful experience. While the service was a little slow, the charming outdoor patio and the delectable food more than made up for it.
Let's start with the ambiance. Evviva boasts a lovely outdoor patio area that immediately sets a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Surrounded by lush greenery and bathed in natural sunlight, it's the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a leisurely meal. The seating arrangements were comfortable, and the patio's warm and welcoming vibe truly added to the overall experience.
Now onto the highlight of any brunch outing—the food. Evviva's menu offers a diverse selection of dishes that cater to different tastes and dietary preferences. From classic breakfast staples to more creative options, there is something for everyone. I was particularly impressed by the quality and presentation of the food. Each dish was beautifully plated and bursting with flavor. The ingredients tasted fresh and were skillfully combined to create a memorable culinary experience. Whether you're a fan of sweet or savory flavors, Evviva's menu will surely satisfy your cravings.
While the service was a bit slow during my visit, I found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. Despite the wait times, they were attentive and ensured that we had everything we needed. It's worth noting that the restaurant was quite busy, which may have contributed to the delayed service. However, the overall positive atmosphere and delicious food helped to alleviate any frustrations caused by the slower service.
In terms of pricing, Evviva offers good value for the quality and portion sizes of its dishes. The prices were reasonable, considering the upscale ambiance and the top-notch ingredients used in the preparation of the food.
In conclusion, despite the slight setback in service, Evviva is a fantastic brunch spot that excels in providing a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience. The picturesque outdoor patio creates an ideal setting to savor a delicious meal, and the food itself is a testament to the chef's culinary expertise. If you're willing to be patient with the service, you'll be rewarded with an unforgettable brunch...
