I've personally eaten here 8+ times (mostly for breakfast) and was originally quite happy with the service, food and drinks. I was so impressed I recommended my family start going here for Saturday breakfast as they never had line-ups, food was priced well, tasted good and servings were plentiful. After our third visit for Saturday breakfast it became quite clear our server (had the same server each time) didn't like us for some reason (eye roll when we walked in to be seated and attitude throughout our visit). It caught us off guard as she had been so pleasant on our first visit. Our third (and final) visit was in celebration of my parents Wedding anniversary (they requested to go here for breakfast as they enjoyed it previously) and us kids wanted to split the bill three ways to treat them. Upon requesting this, our server stormed off swearing, slamming her hands on the kiosk as she angrily calculated our bill. Each transaction we processed with her was printed, thrown on the table at us and at the end she walked away without so much as a thank you or eye contact. Just more swearing and aggressive hand gestures. It's sad when my 3 year old nephew is bare witness to this too. I followed up with the Manager via email privately but never got a response so I'm publicly posting my review here - typically I'm not one to do this but the way we were treated was completely unreasonable and inappropriate.
I'm sure we've all had bad days at work where the pressure gets insurmountable or personal obligations have built a difficult day to maneuver, but you never direct this sort of behavior to clients or paying customers. I decided not to publicly post her name as I don't think that's kind and quite a breach of privacy - she knows what she did and who she is (if she reads this, which likely she won't) I just hope she can clean up her act or find a more suitable position elsewhere if she really dislikes it so much. I also hope my review will help Management hold their staff to a higher standard and take accountability of their poor showing.
Great breakfast though, too bad we will...
Read moreWent here for a quick bite after the auto show. The ambience was good and overall the interior was a typical Irish Pub. The cushions on the seats were held together by several black duck tape pieces and there were dust webs hanging down above us, from the ceiling. My two friends ordered drinks off the menu (beer and Long Island), while I ordered a Moscow Mule. We ordered a burger, Irish Lamb Stew and Chicken Leek Pie. The waitress brought our food and the Lamb Stew was too salty and also lamb was somehow replaced with beef instead. We specifically asked for the lamb when the waitress took the order ( there was a choice), I guess they thought we wouldn't be able tell the difference. Anyways things like this happen in restaurants so we just are our food. The food overall was at best mediocre. When we got the bill I was surprised to see the Long Island cost $8.45 but the Moscow Mule was $14.95. I didn't get a double shot and half the cup had crushed ice. I called the waitress over to confirm the price and she said since they had to use ginger beer to make the drink, they added extra. I understand adding extra but adding almost $7 dollars for something that costs $1 at the grocery store (ginger beer) is a total rip off. Yes this restaurant is downtown and prices are inflated to pay rent but that price for a Moscow Mule ( 1.5 shot reg vodka and 1/3 bottle of ginger beer plus lime) is uncalled for. In total the meal cost $95 with tax. Also added 15% tip on top of that ( the pricing is not the...
Read moreI found myself at the Lucky Clover Irish Sport Pub in Toronto one Sunday morning, drawn in by the promise of a hearty breakfast and the sounds of hockey and NFL football playing on the television. Stepping inside, I was immediately transported with the pub's cozy, wood-paneled atmosphere - it had all the charm of a classic Irish pub. While many might not expect to find a quality breakfast in a pub, I was pleasantly surprised by the Lucky Clover's breakfast skillet. This monster of a meal included three eggs cooked to perfection, chucks of ham, sausage and bacon, roasted peppers, and a mountain of fluffy home fries. It was a massive helping that kept me full for hours, and remarkably good value for the price. Though a bit loud for a Sunday morning, I appreciated the pub's commitment to setting the mood with upbeat music. The techno beats weren't really my speed so early in the day, but I sure it would have helped energize the crowd watching the matches, if it wasn't me and few couples trying to chat. With its hearty breakfast, pub atmosphere, and commitment to the sport, the Lucky Clover must be popular with locals. The massive breakfast skillet alone is worth a return visit. While the music may not be for everyone in the morning, this Irish pub delivers on flavor and sports - making it a perfect spot to start the day with a pint and some people watching. I'll definitely be back if I ever am...
