THE BEST SANDWICH & UNIQUE HOTDOGS in Toronto!! PERIOD! I have been visited Grandma Loves You several times, and trust me the food and the service will make you keep coming back.
Start of with the Hotdogs - I have tried some of them, such as French Dog, Japan Dog, Sweden Dog, and the newest addition Mexican Dog and Spain Dog. Each of them are unique, and blown you away. I’d say the French Dog is my top favourite from all, meaning that I always get it every time I went here. You’ll never believe that French blueberry jam accompanied by brie cheese will perfectly indulge your taste buds, right?! But let me tell you, it was a first love on the first bite! You can get it in the regular bun, or in a croissant.
The Spain Dog - that we recently tried, is a WOW for me! Why? I don’t like goat cheese because of the strong smell, but Grandma really made me changed my mind of the goat cheese, How they incorporate mango, and the sweet chili sauce complement each other in a perfect harmony. I’d say again and again, Grandma really changed your perspective after you eat their delicious hotdogs!
Other than the Hotdogs, I am craving for their Spicy Crispy Ham Sandwich - all the layers of ham, the fresh veggies, and the hot sauce will satisfy your cravings. Or get the Chicken avocado sandwich, its a good one too! Don’t forget to get their Banana Chocolate Croissant for a dessert - we always get this too!
You can expect the best from them, the food are top notch, loaded with toppings, and consistent. And the owners are super friendly and so nice. Enjoy your food at their patio if you like. Expect a wait time (5-10 minutes) during lunch time, but everything is made fresh to order, What can you...
Read moreGrandma Loves You has been on my radar for awhile. I've seen pictures of their croissants and they just look delectable and ready to bite into. When Yelp had an Elite experience to try 2 hot dogs, I jumped on the chance to go so I could also try their croissants.
My partner and I came after work and got the 2 Yelp experience hotdogs (check out my review there for a review of the dogs...all I'll say here is that they aren't your average hot dog!)
At the counter, they have a little tray of donuts. I was a little sad because I thought I had missed my croissant opportunity, but was so happy to learn that they were available, just not on display b/c they're made fresh to order!
We ate on their adorable little covered patio out front. The croissants were brought out to us, and although we took them home to eat, I snuck a peak. They looked SO GOOD! I got the German chocolate and banana, and my partner got the pistachio, honey and banana. This wasn't on their menu and was either new or a special, I can't recall.
When we got home and had our sweet treats, I was so happy. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. The croissant was light and fluffy, but didn't just fall apart when you ate it. The fresh banana was such a perfect combo. It brought be back to Europe, sitting in a fancy little pastry shop.
Check out their website. I loved hearing the story about the owners having a Grandma Loves You in Europe, and then moving their family to Canada to open the Canadian one. The service was so nice, and made you feel...
Read moreGLY offers an extensive menu of submarines, sandwiches, hotdogs, and croissants. It can be difficult zeroing in on a choice, so I asked Sarah about her favourite items, which includes the gourmet French dog, chef’s choice sub, meatball sub, and the new BLT sub.
Since Sarah loves the subs, I opted for the Chef’s choice ($12.99 for the pictured 6 inch) that’s wrapped in a crunchy soft roll reminiscent of banh mi bread. It’s stuffed to the gills with toppings… I had to press and really stretch out the jaw to get the first bites in. The grilled chicken is neutrally seasoned allowing the house made sauces to shine through, blending into the fried onions to give the sandwich a real savouriness.
Not normally a fan of black olives, they work in the creation, becoming lost in the other ingredients so that it just adds a bit of saltiness. Pickled hot peppers provide interest to the sandwich without too much heat, and the creamy avocado holds everything together. It’s a sub with a lot of different textures and flavours. In other words, my kind of sub.
Same with the gourmet French dog ($9.49), which I was worried would be too sweet. Luckily, the blueberry preserve is more fruit than sugar helping to blend the other ingredients together without becoming the prominent flavour. If anything, the freshly grilled salty wiener comes through the most, GLY uses the long frankfurter that is surprisingly juicy for being a thinner dog. It becomes a “French” dog from the addition of brie, which when warm melts into the ultra...
