If you say Johnny's, the collective voice in Toronto would be Johnny's Hamburgers - rightly so as it's been an icon for half a century. However, I propose to you another place to consider. Johnny's Shawarma! If I was back in my old hood, I would have a seat with my name on it etched in bronze for all ages. This place isn't about just being a quick serve, it's about having a food experience. First time, Johnny's was at the Taste of the Middle East. Second time, I got to experience the whole menu at an event. I made it a note to return and do a write up of this place. It's only fair that another Johnny's in Scarborough gets some attention - as little as I may be able to drum up. Johnny is a charismatic and tireless soul. He is a both a showman and an excellent purveyor of fine mid-east food. His motto is "Addiction Guaranteed" and he does his best to deliver on it. The food quality is very good and for those who look to be comfortably full, you will have no arguments here as the quantity is very generous. Each dish is prepared fresh and amazing. He even carves his shawarma by hand! Not some sheep shear that many are using now. Why is hand carving so important? Have you been to a real deli? They tell you that hand carved meats for sandwiches are better...why? Who cares, it just is! We don't argue...we just enjoy. Well, trust me, hand carved shawarma is the way to go! Thick chunks of meat with just the right sear on one end and juicy through the rest. All the taste and no taste of machine oil and metal - yeah, you didn't think of that did ya!?! My ratings is quite simple (and I do change it up here and there) up to 3 stars for food. 1 extra for ambiance. 1 more for service. It's a quick serve restaurant in Scarborough so ambiance will suffer a bit but let's say Johnny's personality makes up for it! Oh BTW as Johnny says... "Don't ever be sorry, unless you had shawarma somewhere else!" Somehow this rang true as I live in Richmond Hill and rarely make it out to Scarborough and had shawarma elsewhere. I'm still paying for it two days later, and they used the Sheep Shears!!! - UGH! FML! CHEERS!!!

This was my first ever shawarma in my whole life, I came to this restaurant on a Sunday evening. Ordered for takeout a chicken shawarma poutine (9.95 cad ish) and a beef shawarma plate for my husband (15 cad). In total it costed 24.80 cad including tax for two for dinner. The portion sizes were quite big, it was enough to leave us brimming full. My shawarma poutine was very flavorful, the fries were the best part, still slightly crispy and they had potato skin on them which I prefer. The chicken wasn't too dry, very flavorful, for me I would say it's slightly too salty but I think it'd be nice for ppl with heavier taste preferences. The poutine also came with some salad (lettuce + tomato) which helped make the dish less heavy. I also tried some of the beef shawarma and the beef was very juicy and seasoned very well. The beef is a lot less saltier than the chicken so if you're like me and prefer less salty meats try the beef instead of the chicken. Overall a very good first shawarma experience for us, and I think it's highly worth the price.

Just wrapped up an amazing meal at Johnny’s Shawarma, and I genuinely can’t wait to go back. This place nails the Mediterranean street food vibe with quality, flavor, and personality. The shawarma here is absolutely top-tier. The meat was juicy, well-marinated, and had just the right amount of crisp on the edges. Everything tasted fresh and well-balanced, from the garlic sauce to the pickles to the perfectly toasted wraps. Whether you’re into shawarma wraps, poutines, or platters, this spot delivers. The place has a low-key, local charm. It isn’t trying to be flashy. It’s just focused on serving solid, honest food with heart. The open kitchen layout lets you see the food being prepared fresh in front of you, which adds a nice touch of trust and transparency. Special shoutout to Elias and Raphael. These two made the entire experience better. They were friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what they do. It’s not just about good food here, it’s about feeling like you’re in good hands.

I’ve been buying Shawarma’s from JS for a long time. Ever since they opened up. When the store was smaller (it’s been renovated now and it’s bigger and better). The only issue I have is that they stopped cutting the meat directly from the grill… they have the meat pre-cut and sitting in a warm tray. However, it doesn’t taste the same compared to getting the chicken/beef from the grill while it’s spinning. This is how it should be. It used to be like that where they cut the meat directly from the grill and place it inside the pita or plate. Not anymore. Another issue is, I see the food handlers using bare hands… even with COVID around. Regardless they shouldn’t be using bare hands to prepare our orders. Recently I ordered through Uber eats and the chicken was undercooked. They also sent my order through a Uber that walks to deliver food… this individual WALKED to my residence to hand my ordered food… not sure if you guys approved Uber to send drivers to walk instead of drive? I felt bad for the kid and I tipped him 20$ (even though it was only 1.8km walking distance). My food was still warm but the chicken was undercooked regardless. I didn’t know Uber let’s their contractors walk and deliver food. Unbelievable. Going forward I’ll be going to shawarma storefronts that cut the meat directly from the grille, instead from a tray that’s already pre-cut and stored (undercooked). I do understand why you are doing that, but my taste buds don’t deserve shortcuts. I’m paying for a hot meal not a meal that is cooked(sometimes) and later served when someone orders it (walk in or via Uber). 2 stars for all the times I enjoyed your meals. I’ll Uber from another shawarma place and I hope it’s not delivered by a...
