DISAPPOINTED

What a sad day...

First of all, I knew the owner of the original Kenzo on Yonge street just south of Steeles Ave. There were no ramen places in Toronto yet! This is around early-mid 2000's. I remember thinking how delicious their food was. Not too long after, this place started franchising and things were alright. I was happy that more people got to enjoy this delicious ramen.

Today, in a long time, I decided to go, since it snowed for the first time. Got the netsu ramen. After a few bites, I felt something foreign in my mouth. It was a piece of metal that came off of a cleaning scrub.

I asked politely for a new bowl of ramen,, she seemed to be surprised and apologetically upset. She got me a new bowl but mentioned that it happens sometimes and it is impossible to get that little piece. I cook often but never in my life had I prepared food and something other than food was in my dish. It's not very difficult, you just have to pay attention.

Other than that,, the pork chashu was cold, (the original owner used to grill it just before being served), netsu is a dish where they have to use the wok to stir fry the pork and veggies to give it the smokey flavour, but it seems like they use less veggies and skip this step now.

Today I learned a lesson. Never compromise your product. If your business is not doing well, make your product better, create more value for the customers. Don't start cutting things out for profit. Come to think if it, they also go rid of the pickles.....

I paid full...

Disappointing Experience with Rude Service

I have visited this place many times and always appreciated the good food and customer service. However, my recent visit with a group of friends was a complete letdown. From the start, the server was incredibly rude. Without even a proper greeting, she told us that bills couldn’t be split for groups of six and that we must pay in one single bill. On top of that, she mentioned a mandatory 15% tip would be added to whatever the bill amount was, regardless of the service quality. This set a negative tone for the entire experience.

The worst part was at the end when she added the tip herself to the bill without consulting us, which was highly unprofessional and disrespectful. My friends and I all felt this behavior was unacceptable and ruined what should have been an enjoyable outing.

While the food was still good, the customer service was completely disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially if you’re planning to go with a group. This was honestly the worst customer service experience...

I let myself be swayed by the review that claimed that the ramen was prefabricated and from a cup. Incredible (in the original sense of the word) review aside, this place was amazing. I had the Tonkotsu Shoyu ramen and oh wow. The broth was delicious--almost too salty, but not quite. It's the broth that makes the ramen. It was rich and hearty. The pork was well done, and the noodles were perfectly al dente. Apparently they make the noodles in house, and they were delicious. My wife had the Shio ramen, and the broth was equally delicious and had a slight fishy taste, probably from katsuobushi. The service was amazing and the ramen came out very quickly--probably because we were the only table there. The only thing that made me a little uneasy was the way the server stared at us as we ate. Other than that, it was amazing. I don't know why it wasn't busier! Maybe it being +28°C and humid had something to do with it. Will...

Kenzo is close to annex billiards, i dropped by after some snooker play for a bowl of ramen. Spicy ramen. Very spicy, very hot ramen. I chose the spicy charsu ramen, with a heat level of 2 out of 3. The heat level was quite hot, but bearable. My eyes had watered slightly but i could still taste the broth and condiments. By the time i finished my bowl, i left no broth. After paying for my meal, i saw the staff having their meal. They should also include the staff meals on the menu as well - it looked amazing and quite delicious !!! Will drop by again to try the highest heat level !!! August 2022: Brought my partner to kenzo. She wanted to order a ramen with no pork or pork broth. Our server Hanna, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the ramen, the broths, and how they are assembled in their kitchen. In the end, we had a great meal and experienced great service. Kenzo spadina better hang onto Hanna !!!
