Today was my first time m at MIFTAR but definitely, without a doubt, my last :D Since the moment my friend and I walked in, the 2 people working there are instantly focusing on us , being super creepy with their constant looks TBH and then started being super rude? My friend and I came in, and to out bad luck, we dared to take an extra chair (OMG) to put our stuff on, while still adjusting and taking off our jackets/setting my laptop etc, instantly a waiter comes to ask if other people are joining and if not to just put the 2 chairs back. I didn’t appreciate it but accepted it. I asked about wifi password, she seemed unwilling to provide it and a minute after she sends another waiter in a very inappropriate and unprofessional manner to tell us “ you have to order something you cant just come and sit without ordering”. Noting we’ve only been at the place for about 3 mins to hear such comment, and noting that the friend I was accompanying had been a regular customer at the place ( never again though). Honestly my friend recommended me and a bunch of our friends this place but here we are recommending them to never visit along with everyone else here who’s considering this place Oh and btw 1- there was an insect on the chair when we came in and I didn’t want to make a fuss and took it out with a tissue - wondering about hygiene? 2- there was a bee inside the cafe flying all over our coffee mugs 3- all the 5 star reviews are based on them offering free stuff to certain individuals for their review- shame you have to do that for a good reputation on google :) Oh and don’t bother commenting with your super creepy observations about each client lol because I won’t be wasting anymore time on this- but I feel sorry for how hateful you are for every comment that isn’t you cup of tea- people are allowed to dislike things you know, like your dry...
Read moreMitFar Boutique Cafe is a relative newcomer in the Rosedale area, having opened last year. It's run by a husband and wife (the store name is a portmanteau of their names, Mitra and Farzam), and is something of a hybrid between a cafe and art gallery. It's a business that really suits the neighbourhood - when I visited, one of my fellow customers looked like he just came from modelling for a Banana Republic ad campaign.
I am completely serious when I say that this may be the best coffee in Toronto. Farzam is a savant when it comes to coffee - he has a ton of education, knowledge, and practical experience. I've purchased coffee from plenty of skilled baristas in Toronto over the years, but Farzam is on another level completely. They have all sorts of cool unique drinks here as a result, but he can make basically anything you want. Admittedly you have to pay for the quality, but you definitely get your money's worth here.
For the sake of this review, we had an espresso tonic and rosemary iced latte. The espresso tonic had a delightful amount of carbonation, and the delicious flavour of the espresso shined through. I've had espresso tonics at lesser establishments where there's an overpowering taste of syrup or carbonation bubbles. This drink was was very obviously a tier above those - it was much more deep and complex.
My partner found the rosemary iced latte to be "very soft, true to the title, and not overpowering." I think that gets at the essence of this drink - it's got a very interesting and unique flavour, but they don't make the rosemary overpowering (that probably wouldn't be pleasant). It's a soft suggestion of rosemary which is intriguing and tasty.
Overall, MitFar is a jewel among the very best cafes in Toronto. I wish Farzam and Mitra many more...
Read moreAs a matcha fanatic, I stopped by mitfar primarily to try their matcha latte. While I enjoyed the café’s atmosphere, the matcha latte was admittedly very horrible. I ordered the strawberry matcha and was getting some bitter chunks of strawberry. Typically a strawberry matcha latte is made with a sweet strawberry compote or reduction, but it seemed this drink was made with just pure, unripe chunks of strawberry thrown in. It also did not taste like a high-grade quality Matcha powder was used. The matcha was a whopping $13, which I can confidently say is the most expensive price I have ever paid for a Matcha latte. This price is for the “large” size, which you can see in the photo is quite small.
Disappointed, I decided I wanted to try something else. I ordered the pistachio croissant, which had a fun, cylindrical shape to it. I was admittedly blown away with the taste of the pistachio filling, and how crisp, light, and airy the pastry was. Though I would consider $12 to be generally steep for a pastry, the taste and complexity of the pistachio croissant justified the price.
All in all I did visit for the Matcha latte and was very disappointed by its taste, so I would not recommend this place at all for its Matcha. I do, however, admit that they make a mean...
