Monkey Sushi — Restaurant in Toronto

I will never leave a negative review on a restaurant but unfortunately this experience has warranted me to do so.

I ordered for takeout and had the worst experience with my food. It was honestly borderline revolting. I ordered the build your own poke bowl and it felt like not a single thing was done right, and looked unappetizing at all points.

Brown Rice base: stale and hard.

Avocado cubes: not cubes, just half an avocado placed in the bowl.

Tuna/salmon: large unevenly cut chunks, fishy taste, looked like it had been chewed up before being put in the bowl.

Wakame seaweed: was okay but not great.

Sweet corn: somehow it was stale and rubbery. I’ve never seen corn like this so I am genuinely curious how this came to be.

Yam fries: just gross. So soggy and chunks of the outer “fried” parts were all over the bowl. It was as if it was fried a day ago and just left to get soggy before being put in my bowl. Photo attached.

Spicy mayo: not spicy at all- it was just orange-coloured mayo.

Safe to say I will not be ordering from this place again and I don’t think it warrants me even giving it another chance unfortunately. I wish I looked at the reviews before ordering from here as I would’ve saved myself $30, and as you can see in the images I attached, absolutely nothing...

We got a salmon tray from this restaurant again, and this time I didn’t have a good experience.

We ordered three miso soups, and they didn’t show up. We also had three side dishes, which all had fewer portions than the last time we called.

The only thing we were satisfied with was this salmon tray, but they also didn’t give us wasabi and soy sauce…

Not a good experience this time for sure. If they keep doing fewer portions with the same price, maybe I’ll stop ordering from them.

Big portions, good price, and tasty! The sushi was fresh and delicious, and the tray looked so beautiful. This party tray was way bigger than we expected, me and my partner even couldn’t finish it. Compare to the sushi tray, the seafood tempura was okay. I know it’s all deep fried but I felt extra greasy when I was eating it. Other than that I was still very satisfied with the sushi! Ordered delivery for 4 people from this location on Uber. When the restaurant handed the order to the delivery person, they told him to check the order because they knew it was incomplete (the delivery driver couldn't do that without ripping the bag open). They also told the driver to have me report the missing item(s) for a refund. That's easy enough to do, but the item they forgot was the main dish for one of our party, who ended up not having enough to eat. The fact that the restaurant couldn't be bothered to complete the order makes me question the overall quality of the food. Also, the karaage was just tiny pieces of overcooked batter (don't offer subpar items as BOGO if you can't make a decent quality product). Would not recommend, at least...
