Used to be one of the BEST places in Toronto to grab a wrap or a plate!
Unfortunately, it seems that the global economic crisis is taking a toll on even the best places.
I hate to be giving OMG a 3/5, because I truly feel that they've been a consistent 4/5 or 5/5 spot over the past 2-3 years.
Recently, I've seen some changes that make it difficult for me to keep it at 4/5, just because there are other places around that still maintain a strong value prop, despite the rising cost of goods.
The two major changes I've seen as of late: My latest wrap order had a different type of French Fry! Say what you will, but their previous Costco-like fries were to die for. They helped the dish SOO much. The new fries in my most recent order look like standard McD fries that don't taste like McD or as good as the previous ones. Please bring back the old fries!!
Portions have gotten smaller -- quite a bit in some cases. Their plates were really solid in 2019 and 2020 -- even in '21. But recently, it looks like they've began to reduce the portion sizes in response to rising cost of goods. I'm ok with this move if it helps the business continue to survive, but please don't hold these prices, even after inflation reverses course in the future. That's where these portion size changes no longer are ok.
The above contributes to a -2 on the 5-star scale. Where is the last -1?
Well... For some reason, someone at OMG thought it be a smart idea to list a BOGO offer on Uber Eats that is NOT a BOGO offer. It is misleading at best, and malicious at worst. Currently on UE, you can buy a BOGO wrap for $20.99. OR, you can buy a separate individual wrap for $10.45. What's "Buy 1, get 1 free" about this offer?... There is no BOGO... This isn't an acceptable way to promote your products...
So 3 or 4 stars, depending on how things progress... It's still a tasty joint and I WILL be back. But I fear that we may be headed downhill from here :(.
Please continue to stick to your roots!
I will revisit this review after future dining, will update to reflect the quality/value at the time! +1 if old fries are back +1 if portion sizes revert (without a corresponding price hike) +1 if the sketchy promo practices are stopped (there are other ways to mess up, though, which may result in a...
Read moreDecided to try this place based on the review. Pretty disappointing. Nothing special - feel like all these reviews are friends or customers who haven't had a real gyro.
First order: 2x chicken souvlaki pita, beef pita, gyro pita. Received: 3x souvlaki, 1 gyro pita, NO beef. Also mixed up all the labels so friend who wanted the Gyro never even got to enjoy it. Other than messing up the entire order, taste was normal nothing special.
Decided to try one more time because the reviews just didn't make sense... so instead did a plate order. Second order: 1 chicken gyro plate, 1 beef plate. Taste was disgusting, worse than the pita, and dripping in oil. The gyro plate was not in "slices" as they said they typically serve their gyro when the order was made - it was crumbles of fatty and oily meat, with lack luster seasoning.
I did let the manager know after my second order how I felt and he was genuinely caring and said he would take care of it next time for me; due to the issues of both orders. Good right? Nope. Received a call right after from the owner with a long winded forceful presentation regarding my second order, about what I got was how they serve gyro's and how everyone serves gyro's - mind you, i know what a gyro is - he doesn't own the definition of gyro - he just serves bad versions of it. After his forceful explanation, he insists he will still give me a free item because "the customer is always right" (except when apparently they are wrong and need a phone call to tell them they are wrong... but they are also still right? I guess?).
Customer service isn't just about giving free stuff away because you cant put together simple orders or mask your mediocre food. And when you say a customer is right, understand the meaning of it... it doesn't mean giving away free stuff - it means understanding what the customer is saying instead of pushing your bad food on them.
If the food was decent enough, I could let all this slide... but it's just an...

Owners of restaurants get the profits. Section 14.2 – Prohibition re tips and other gratuities
Prohibition re Tips or Other Gratuities - s. 14.2(1)
14.2(1) An employer shall not withhold tips or other gratuities from an employee, make a deduction from an employee's tips or other gratuities or cause the employee to return or give his or her tips or other gratuities to the employer unless authorized to do so under this Part.
Scheme of Part V.1
Part V.1 prohibits, an employer from withholding an employee’s tips or other gratuities, making a deduction from them, or causing the employee to return or to give them to the employer, with the following exceptions:
a statute of Ontario or Canada or a court order authorizes it (s. 14.3), or
the employer collects and redistributes tips or other gratuities among some or all of the employer’s employees (s. 14.4)
Where an employer contravenes this prohibition, the remedy is set out in s. 14.2(2): the employer must pay the amount that was unlawfully withheld/deducted/returned/given. This payment is to be made in favour of the employee(s) to whom the customer intended to give the tip. The amount owing is enforceable under the ESA as if it were wages owing to the employee(s).
Tips belong to employees. Theft is theft.
I have been tipping the employees at this location weekly since it opened. I was never tipping the owner because he never cheerfully greeted me, nor did he prepare my food with care.
This place used to have the best wraps in the city. Now there is misery, cold meat, and employees having money stolen from them.
The meat is real meat.
Tips are really...
