Corporate says Do the survey - I DID the survey and gave them 24 hrs to respond. Here's my story cut n pasted from the survey:
I'm not sure if I'm more angry or disappointed. This was my husband's last meal in Canada before heading overseas for months.
Is this location a Swiss chalet or an east side? Outdated and broken signage feels like head office forgot this location even exists... guessing the people from "Dine Safe" haven't been around for awhile caaause....I could smell piss from the bathroom as we walked into the dinning room.
SHOULD HAVE LEFT but BECAUSE I want to give my husband a nice meal at a familiar Canadian restaurant I stayed.
Note: Having visited many many Swiss chalets over the years and having BEEN a shift manager from 2000-2005 at a Harvey Swiss chalet* I am familiar with protocol and while things may have changed in the world...I was HOPING have the quality experience I'm use to at Swiss chalet.**
This restaurant is in definite violation of health codes if
guests can smell biohazard human waste where food is being consumed, someone is going to get sick! Not cleaning enough up to code (deep cleaning nightly plus the hourly check) and it needs to be addressed as urgent as possible. EWWWWWW COMMON DO BETTER! YOU'RE SWISS CHALLET!!!
Continuing on - Our food (which was: a wrap and a hot chicken sandwich and two appetizers - perogies and spring rolls) took over 40 minutes.
After 15... with no appetizers and no waitress coming around, I became vocal to my husband "I wonder if there's a problem with appetizers as they generally take 7 to 11minutes to arrive to the table- if they're following industry standards" --- she THEN let me know that there was a problem in the kitchen and she was getting it fixed as soon as possible. We asked her to bring out all of the food as soon as it was ready- informing her that of a flight to catch.
When she brought out the food it ---was wrong - after waiting over half an hour for a wrap and a chicken sandwich. (Can you -just- for one moment-- put yourself in my position and have all of this happen and not have concerns about sanitation then have your simple 4 item order show up wrong? To have the appetizers show up WITH the food and feel rushed over a restaurant that had 4 other tables and to have THE FOOD WRONG?!)
*Again I should have walked out!!!
She was more concerned about NOT giving me "white meat" in my wrap than the fact that she BROUGHT THE WRONG FOOD.
It was at this point that I AM insulted the lack of experienced in hospitality was clear- she hasn't been trained... the concept of how one can GENERALLY go above and beyond to please a customer ESPECIALLY when mistakes have been made- such as comping and upgrades.
I was emotional and I did not want to deal with this establishment any further at this time. DO better.
Be better.
Till someone from head office wants to make me feel MUCH better about feeling appreciated - this canuck is taking a break from "Recipes Unlimited" till then just know you really really let us down. This was one of the worst experiences.
I will let head office take a look at this and give you some time to
Would give less if I could. Careful folks- untrained, unqualified staff who are overwhelmed and can't care what happens because of poor work environments they're forced to endure. The accessable bathroom can be smelled from the dining room...walk by and see for yourself. But don't worry... someone "checked" on it and added air freshener. (Does that sanitize and protect against...
Read moreUpdated: in our first visit we waited 20 minutes before we decided to seat ourselves. Even then as I am speaking to the waitress she walks right past me without any acknowledgment. Takes the next customer seats and serves them first. As another waitress walks by we ask for a menu again no acknowledgment. The original server eventually gets us a menu. No hello or welcome or sorry for the wait, just here's some menus. She at least told us in advance that the kitchen would have at least a 40min wait. My lunch break is only 1hr.
Normally I would consider the holidays so it's busier, but it wasn't even half full. Also it's not the first time we've attempted to eat at this location and the last time wasn't much different in service. This is months back. At least the pandemic was an excuse.
Updated for our 2nd visit. We were contacted the same day by the manager who was very apologetic about the service and invited us back to make amends. She went above and beyond and we ate there for the first time. It was less busy and we were properly greeted and seated. We got the festive special which has been a holiday tradition. The chardonnay was chilled to perfection. The roast beef was delicious. I was hoping for more roasted chicken. Food was good with room for improvement. Service was better for dinner. Manager was very kind. Just hope staff...
Read moreI had one of the best dining experiences at Swiss Chalet recently, all thanks to our amazing server, Simran. From the moment we walked in, she greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel welcome. Her professionalism, positive attitude, and attention to detail were outstanding.
Simran went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. She was quick to take our order, answered all our questions patiently, and even made thoughtful recommendations that turned out to be spot-on. Throughout the meal, she checked in regularly—without being intrusive—to make sure we were happy with our food and had everything we needed.
What truly stood out was how she handled the busy evening rush. Even with multiple tables to serve, Simran stayed calm, organized, and friendly. It’s rare to find someone who balances speed with genuine hospitality so well. She even remembered my child’s favorite drink from a previous visit — that personal touch made our night even more special.
Simran is the kind of server who makes you want to come back again and again. She represents Swiss Chalet with excellence, and I hope the management knows what a gem they have on their team.
Thank you, Simran, for your exceptional service. We’ll definitely be asking for your section next...
