I'm totally perplexed by this place. They had a sign out saying the entire restaurant was filled with dinner reservations. I asked the hostess if that was accurate and she said yes but she would find us a table. Then she took us in to see 70% of the tables were vacant. The menu has 5 different hamburger platter options. Literally 5 hamburgers with slight variations. But they don't have much of anything else. We both settled on the club sandwich since that's usually a safe option. When the food came out we were given greasy deep fried, breaded chicken burgers on hamburger buns. With pickles on them. We thought it was a mistake because that is not a club sandwich. The waitress said that's just how they make a club sandwich -- as a greasy deep fried chicken burger you'd find in a shopping mall cafeteria. The waitress sort of acted like we were ridiculous for thinking anything was amiss when this just plain and simply isn't what a club sandwich is supposed to be like.
At no point during the 90 minutes we were there did they ever exceed 50% occupancy and everyone who came up and asked for a table was immediately given one. So their sign saying they were full with reservations is actually just some sort of silly mind game to make you feel like they've done a favor for you in accepting you as a customer.
It was just weird. Cost me $90 for two chicken burgers of lesser quality than KFC or Wendy's and two beers. Overall strange experience. I don't understand why their menu has 5 hamburgers and 1 chicken burger falsely advertised as a club sandwich, with few other options. I won't be going back. It's definitely a place that won't hold up well to actual competition and now with the vastly superior pub across the street I'd say this place better up its game significantly and quickly or else the island stone pub will become island stone condos for lease.
The pub across the street is great, though! Kensington is a beautiful little town. (You know it might actually work out better if they just turned the place...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEverything is mediocre or below here except for the menu, which isnāt a good thing. Their menu is so specifically limited, most of the options attempt to be original or fancy, but end up being a mess and tasting gross. Iāve eaten here four times and ordered something different each time and not only felt that each item was sub par and over priced but Iāve now run out of anything else to order that I would even remotely have a chance at liking, and Iām not a picky eater. Their sauces are bland and they put so much on that it ruins everything else (3 people that were with me agreed), service is slow and thereās always flies, gnats and fruit flies flying around and spiders in the windows. Make great basic dishes before trying to be profound.
Edit: Since the owner decided to be defensive instead of responding professionally to feedback, maybe use Chat GPT or hire someone who is better at responding to concerns.
Noticed how you didnāt say anything about the bugs, and how there are several other reviews that state the same thing regarding the weird menu options (especially the burgers) and the bad sauces. For four of us to have a simple burger with some fries, it came to just over $150, which is insane. Iād expect that price and better quality of food at Gahan or something a little classier, not a pub in Kensington. The only thing decent were the fries, and I mean itās PEI, the bar couldnāt be lower for that. For that price we expect to be able to enjoy our food without constantly needing to scrape excess sauce off and swatting away flies. Two of us couldnāt finish the burgers because they were just soaked with the sauce, which didnāt taste good.
I also agree with the other reviews regarding the weirdness of āreservedā tables. There were several empty tables during the hour and a half we were there yet you had someone out front turning people away if they didnāt have a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStopped in here on our way home on our trip to pei, we showed up an hour before they closed , and were excited to try this place and when we walked in we were greeted by a female server with dark long hair who was not pleasant and informed us that they have 20 other guests to take care of and that if we decided to eat there we would have to wait for our food over an hour. š³ We had a long drive and nothing else was open so we decided to stay ! We were treated horribly and we're not too sure why , we kept being kind of course and they nickel and dimed us , any sauces that came with our calamari or any of our food they charged us $3 per little tiny sauce , we got charged over $20 for just a couple little sauces š we couldn't believe how we were treated and the nickel and dime of this place. The food was terrific , I would probably come back again if I was in PEI again and I would order takeout as the service was so terrible and be very mindful with sauces . Very expensive place for what u get especially terrible service !! Not recommend for Dine in !! Our 1st experience here , this was Saturday evening August...
