We had a very nice Sunday Dim Sum at Luxe. The pandemic has not been kind to dining experiences like Dim Sum, where part of the pleasure has always been picking dishes from push carts as they circle the restaurant. Luxe has no push carts, and you order dishes from their online menu. The world changes and we change with it.
As we arrived, we were seated with almost no delay. Tea was promptly placed on the table for us and then the waitstaff moved on. The time for the waitstaff to return for our order was a bit too long; but once our order was placed the food began to arrive promptly. Filling of the teapot and removal of empty dishes was also well coordinated. We went to the service counter/bar to pay our bill as that seemed quicker. It was busy and full in the restaurant.
The restaurant is not large and they do seem to have put in as many tables as they can. It can feel a little claustrophobic; but that is also part of the Dim Sum experience. We did remark on how clean and well kept this restaurant is and that is appreciated. Small tables for two are cafe sized and do not lend themselves to accommodating various Dim Sum dishes at the same time. Large tables seemed fine.
The food is varied, with most dishes being typical of standard Dim Sum fare. We did order a chicken fried rice that came with large chunks of unseasoned chicken. This seemed inconsistent with the other dishes we tasted, as the chicken was in larger than bite sized chunks and the bland taste impacted the whole dish negatively. The other dishes were tasty, well cooked, and typically portioned for Dim Sum.
I think Luxe is a great choice for Dim Sum in Langley. Our experience was positive and this is a restaurant that is obviously taking all the needed steps to ensure a repeat clientele that is loyal. I believe it is well worth your time...
Read moreWe have reviewed the extensive menu, printed and taped to the glass door at the entrance and as found some meals we were excited to try, we decided to enter. We were greeted and as we got seated, we were told that they only take orders for the next 5 minutes so we would need to hurry up. We found this strange as we could not see anything about this midday closure on their Google listing or FB page or the list of open hours on the door as we entered the restaurant, because it was wide open. That must have been their clue for us to leave without ordering. We were already inside, sitting and hungry so we stayed. We asked for the menu and two ladies rushed to hand us a couple of very nice and colourful menus. The number of meal options in these shiny menus however were very limited and we found none of the meals we picked earlier that we were so excited about upon our arrival to this fine establishment. Being under pressure we quickly tried to find something as close as possible to our original choices, but as we couldn't we just asked our waitresses to help us find something with our meal preferences: vegetarian meals and without any sugar added. The food was delivered surprisingly fast, but not without meat and sugar in it so we tried to pick out all the things we were not comfortable eating. Tried to tell someone about not getting the meals we ordered, but the staff disappeared. Later we heard them eating their lunches in a separate room. Other than that, it was a nice place with very limited parking space in front. So to summarize: other than the pressure to choose fast and eat fast and not getting what we ordered, it was alright. If you have no special meal preferences, know exactly what to order, can eat fast and okay with no staff around, then this is a good...
Read moreI have to say today was a disappointing dining experience. There were 5 of us, tried the crab meat fish belly soup, two sea food base dishes, one meat appetizer, and the spicy beef with vermicelli.
The appetizer was ok, not fantastic but at least the presentation was standard.
The crab soup tho, appearance was honestly unappealing. It was white with white pits, and plus the red vinegar made the soup look pink. Tasted nothing like seafood, no other veg, just the white bits which i wishfully assumed they were crab meat, there is maybe some egg white - and completely bland and unseasoned. I honestly thought the chef had forgotten to salt it or add any seasoning. ( we are average Asians with taste bud on a lightly salted basis, so when I said it is unseasoned, it has almost no taste.) the soup was the most shocker of all, the rest of the dishes are standard, the spicy beef with vermicelli was the best of all.
In the meantime, I’ve asked water for my kids, 3 times, in the end I went to the counter to get it, one lady who delivers the food actually told me don’t order water from me I’m way too busy, she literally dropped the food and “ran” away while we tried to speak to her. Really?!?
While I understand the chaos of a busy restaurant, I felt the service does not reflect the 15% standard charge at all. It was a disappointing experience and not worthy of a 260 dollar meal.
Please improve your service immediately.
Ps. Dim sum at lunch was 200% better than the a la carte...
