Aidan's is visible from Broadway. The entrance of the coffee shop is right next to Kisokoma Japanese Restaurant in the generous front courtyard of 805 Broadway complex. But somehow, I got lost via Google maps where it to me to the back lane without any entrances. Apparently, Aiden's people have been trying to fix this without success. Aidans has a very interesting interior layout. Unlike the typical tunnel-shaped coffee shop with seats to one side only, the space curve around to the right ended with a little nook. I really like the quiet music and the hushed atmosphere. Even at the peak of lunch hour, with several people waiting to place their orders, it was still quiet – nice! I wanted to order Three Cups Chicken (because I needed the broccoli) but that item is only available from their West Hastings location. The kitchen at this location is not big enough for a stir-fry station. The good news is they have a MerryChef oven – which means that anything they heat up, like their wraps, will be steamy hot inside and the wrap will be light and crispy outside without being pressed flat. We ordered a Club Sandwich and a Brekkie Sandwich. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and properly cooked. The many photos of the same item on Google show that the scrambled eggs have been consistently well made. The Club Sandwich – oh my, it's been so many years since I had empty-calorie white bread. The sandwich consisted of tasty roasted dark meat which is more suited to my body than white meat according to my Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor. Perhaps one's body is smart enough to guide food preferences according what it needs. Our coffee drinks were perfectly made. They use Agro Coffee. The soy micro-foam is first class. I usually don't eat cakes because of my egg-sensitivity. But I was very intrigued by the purple ube yam pound cake. It was freshly made that day, and has a chewy-spongy texture. A bit too sweet for my non-existent sweet tooth. But this is probably my lunch spot of choice around this area...
Read moreCame to this cafe because it came across my social media feeds for being a very aesthetic cafe and items “looked” good on the gram.
However, was quickly let down.. coming at 1:45pm and all they had from their “wide” variety of pastries was butter croissant and one UBE cupcake that looks seemly familiar to the one found at Miion cafe in Richmond. Maybe all the pastries were sold out already with still quite a bit of time before closing which is technically good. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt they are perhaps still in the soft opening stages and haven’t figured out the number of pastries they should order in each morning as it’s unlikely they bake in house.
The food in the display case ( wraps and salads ) look extremely unappealing and did not look fresh. A lot of condensation in the packages.
I ordered a matcha latte and holy… might be the WORST matcha in Vancouver… and I’ve had my fair share of terrible and solid matcha. Also had the croissant and it was soooo dry. Which is so unfortunate because the space is SOLID however the staff looked like they were hating life and seem annoyed when we asked questions regarding even what milk alternatives there are.
I’ll let the photo do the telling. The matcha was pale AF Barely green and I even enhanced the colors.
EDITED: Owner has reached out to me on IG and here.
My review was based on my experience that day and I completely understand the challenges that can come with sourcing. Like I mentioned, it was a very unfortunate miss since I love the space and truly think it’s a great spot for coffee, pastries and in my personal case a good matcha latte. I’m definitely open to trying again in the future after the adjustments are made !
I’ve also adjusted the rating...
Read moreI originally planned to visit this new café with a friend last weekend, but unfortunately, they were closed on weekends. So today, I decided to come alone. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a serene and comfortable atmosphere. The interior is simple, elegant, and beautifully designed. I particularly liked the texture of the tables and chairs. At 9:30 AM, the café wasn’t too busy, with only a few customers, but there were three staff members behind the counter. The pastries displayed in the glass case looked incredibly fresh and tempting, but since they weren’t labeled, I had to ask the staff about them. Two of the employees were chatting and didn’t seem to notice me right away, so I had to call for their attention. After getting some information I decided to order a Spinach feta roll , along with Supreme Croissant and Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant to take home.I also got a Cortado coffee to enjoy on the spot. The coffee was decent, but it didn’t leave a strong impression. As for the croissants, when I tried them at home, I found the filling to be overly sweet for my taste. Overall, the ambiance of this café is fantastic, but the coffee and pastries didn’t quite stand out. However, just before leaving, I noticed their breakfast menu, which looked interesting. I think I’ll give this place another chance and come back with a friend to try their...
