Went to have brunch for my friend's birthday. The greeter was super friendly and the food was great. We had some car problems and was late, but the greeter was super friendly and helped us get seated really quickly. We were recommended by a friend and was excited to try. We ended up all grabbing the steak and eggs with the smoke salmon to share. The cappuccino wasn't very well made. The eggs were cooked perfectly but the steak was a little bit burnt on the outside and it was cold when we got our food. The has was very well made with parmeasen cheese. The plating really enhanced the eating experience.
Our server Kristen wasn't very friendly and this really impacted my overall brunch experience. When we asked her if she can take a picture for us, she said she is really busy and will be right back. When we had questions about a picture we saw online, she wasn't sure and said "it must be special" and brushed us off. Then when we asked her to split the bill, she made me feel like she wanted to and just walked away...we asked her for the machine, she said ""she was really busy" again and served other tables around us. I felt bad for splitting the bill because I got the feeling that my request seem to have added more work for her. After we paid, she didnt even smiled and walked away. She seems like she was done with serving us.
I definitely understand it's a really busy day, but I don't feel like she should express her frustration at us. She mentioned"she was busy" many times but I feel like we would understand if she said "I will be right back"but that's really not how you should treat customers.
Overall it's a good place for brunch... But I m hesitant to come back a...
Read moreI was so excited to go to Belgard Kitchen when I saw the reviews, and the atmosphere and decor was incredibly cool. I made a reservation and my boyfriend and I went last night. It was a love-hate experience. We had to wait 5-10 mins for our table to be set, then when we were finally seated, we waited another 45 minutes for someone to come take our drink order. However, no one came by our table or even looked our way, so I finally had to get the attention of a waitress (who was not our actual waitress) to pay attention to us and take our order. Granted, when I asked her to help us, she was very lovely and attentive! But we were so worried no one would come back that we ordered food and drinks all at once. I really didn't want to like the food... but let me tell you... it was amazing. The scallop risotto was divine and the yam gnocchi was next level incredible. I want to go back for the food, but I'm terrified to experience such terrible service again. We never ended up being served by our actual waitress, and I'm not sure anyone would have noticed if we left before paying. We didn't want to wait another 30+ mins to get the bill, so we actively had to track down yet a different waiter to be able to pay so we could get home. I understand it was a busy night for them, and I would have understood a 10-15 min delay in someone coming by our table after we were first seated, but 45 mins was beyond unacceptable. I'm definitely going to be giving this place a second chance because the food really was THAT GOOD, but I really hope the service doesn't let me...
Read moreThe food is here AMAZING. I celebrated my birthday here and we ordered the Shrimp Nero, Wild Boar Lasagna, Pork Belly Picnic, Double Duck Pizette, and the Yam Gnocchi. Looking at pictures and reviews and reading the menu beforehand I thought the gnocchi would be my favourite, but I was very surprised by the lasagna. Healthy portion size, and SO GOOD. The sauce had the perfect amount of tartness from the tomatoes. The squid ink pasta, while quite good, was the least exciting dish. Portions lean on the smaller side for the price and especially considering being marketed as sharing plates, but I would absolutely come back. We just wish the surrounding neighbourhood wasn’t as rough! The commute there definitely wasn’t very pleasant.
They also offer decently priced beer and wine flights. We were all a little disappointed by their limited beer selection so we opted for a wine flight. Grateful our server gave us a few tasters of beer to try before we made a decision! They definitely have more wine options than beer.
I took off one star because we found a looong hair entangled in the gnocchi dish when we were halfway through eating it. The way the restaurant handled it though was impressive and certainly ensured it didn’t ruin the night. My friends and I joked that the gnocchi was so good we would have still eaten it despite the hair! Our server offered us a new dish, compensated us for that dish despite giving us a new one, and even gave us a dessert on the house. But of course, a five star meal would have been not finding a strand of hair in our...
