I had high expectations before even coming to this place because of the line up every time we drive by. I have had Korean corndogs in Korea so I was really excited to see how these were taste. Let me tell you that they taste exactly like the one you would get in Korea! Absolutely amazing and they exceeded my expectations. Due to Covid there are two lines that are outside: one for ordering and one for pickup. There is about three people allowed in the store each time and once you order or you just wait outside. The staff inside are absolutely so welcoming and super nice. I went right when they opened on a Sunday and about to 15 minutes before they opened there was already 3 people in line. Honestly I would wait four hours just to get these because they are absolutely delicious! I personally got: Left: Mozzarella Cheese Hotdog-with sugar, ketchup and honey mustard for topping Middle: Squid-ink Cheese Hotdog- with sugar, sweet chili sauce, spicy mayo, and ketchup for topping Right: Whole Mozzarella Cheese Hotdog- with sugar, honey mustard, and ketchup for topping It was my first time and I asked the staff what they would recommend for topping so that’s what I got. Because I was one of the first ones there, in total ordering and pick up took around 15 minutes. I recommend you go right when they open or during not busy hours. I think the wait time was completely reasonable and very acceptable considering how fresh and delicious these are. I got a cheese pull on every single one of these. I would absolutely recommend this place, from the covid measures, the taste, to the staff, everything was just perfect. If you’re in Vancouver you’ve got to give...
Read moreService was great and it was well-organized despite the hassle imposed by COVID restrictions. The wait was long, about half an hour or so, but understandable given the big crowd at such a small establishment. My girlfriend had wanted to try these for a while so we got 5 different kinds: Pure Mozzarella, Mozzarella Hotdog, Ramen Chip, Chicken, and Potato. They are quite big and one hotdog by itself would be a small meal, two will leave the average person stuffed, and at about $6 a dog I would consider it pretty decent value.
We got our dogs and our toppings, and service was great. However, the hotdogs themselves were something of a letdown. They were piping hot and very obviously fresh, but somewhat bland, and after getting through about one and a half of them I was just feeling queasy. I would say that the problem isn't with the recipe, as it seems like an idea with potential, but just in the low quality ingredients and apparent lack of in-house ingredient prep.
The hotdogs themselves taste like the cheapest kind you could get in a grocery store multipack. The rice and breading is bland and lacks character or flavor of its own. The chicken bits on the chicken dog were dry and overcooked from being just stuck to the outside of the rice. They were poorly seasoned, and on top of all of that the various condiments that you had to choose from tasted like mediocre garden variety Heinz products.
I think that the Korean hotdog idea is a neat one, and I would like to enjoy it, but as it stands, I would want to see the quality of the ingredients improve before I would find myself at Chung Chun again....
Read moreThis tiny corner serves up tasty rice hotdogs, where one is big enough to be a light meal for a small person. This is takeaway-only as there's no place to sit, and there's a table for standers but the place is really too small to support anyone eating in.
Because the hotdog is covered with rice mochi, it doesn't feel very heavy or oily, even when deep-fried.
I tried the half sausage, half cheese dog.
I liked the mozzarella in it: The mozzarella comes out soft, stringy and melted, which goes well with the crunchy shell. It's very comforting/feel-good to eat.
The beef hotdog inside isnt anything special, it doesnt taste like 100% meat, it's just kind of soft processed meat... But the outside of the dog makes up for it. So the meat is definitely not costco hotdog level, it is almost like luncheon meat texture, so that could bother some people. It wasn't meaty enough for me. (Probably a typical "American sausage" texture in other korean/asian food places too when they incorporate foreign ingredients, like into hotplates and hotpots etc. Its supposed to be a bit light i guess?)
Next time ill prob try something with the chicken in it to see what it tastes like too.
Extra toppings come at a price, I think $1-2 extra. But there are many sauces and cheese/butter powders for free you can choose that they put on for you. I think i took some chipotle mayo and bbq and some of the powders.
Popular place for young people as it's also hard to find any takeout food under $10 that actually tastes good. If you are very hungry, you might need two dogs that would make it about...
