DALINA Broadway — Restaurant in Vancouver

Stopped for a snack before my appointment nearby (it's conveniently located close to the VGH complex). Design is modern and clean, lots of small plants scattered around. In addition to the cafe food, they have some packaged snacks, coffee paraphernalia, and cards for sale. Free wifi, some tables are designated laptop-free. My food was very good! I got a berry scone and a cinnamon dolce latte. The scone was super soft with bits of caramelization on the outside from the fruit, and still a little warm. The latte was also really nice; I got decaf after accidentally getting without and trying a sip of it before checking my receipt and realizing it wasn't decaf, and I thought the decaf version was actually better because the darker roast balanced better with the cinnamon dolce syrup. It was good coffee, "toasty" but not bitter. The service was good, the one (older) barista was really nice. She seemed really happy to be there making coffee and was totally apologetic when I asked if I could have my latte replaced with a decaf because the other barista didn't catch it when I ordered. I would appreciate it if they asked “for here or to go” instead of assuming “to go”; the barista taking my order just grabbed a disposable cup and was going to start writing on it as soon as I ordered, before I had the chance to...

I have been coming to Dalina for years, and although some new cafes have opened in the area, it remains my favorite for high-quality coffee and lattes. If there's a negative review, I'm 100% sure it's a fake one from a competitor, so I disregard it. The only downside I can mention is the hours of operation; I wish it were open 24 hours, but the shop is too small for that.

In a review I wrote five months ago, I reflected on my recent experience at the Starbucks at Cambie and Broadway, which made me appreciate the top-notch service and delicious food that Dalina offers even more. I really hope the owners consider opening a location in Toronto in the future so I can enjoy another Dalina spot. What makes Dalina amazing isn't just the high-quality ingredients, but also the outstanding customer service.

I was very disappointed to see none of the staff wearing masks. I wouldn’t want to get food or drink from somewhere that isn’t taking covid19 safety protocols seriously.

Edit: I see that the owner replied accusing me of lying. So first of all, accusing your patrons of lying isn’t a great way to retain business. Second of all, if they had any attention to detail they would see I posted this in the summer when BC relaxed their mask regulations. Masks were no longer mandatory but “highly recommended” and most businesses still had mandatory mask regulations. It was very disappointing to see Dalina staff immediately drop their mask policy the moment it was no longer mandatory, and then go on Google and flame their patrons who are pointing out this observation. Lastly, I could have taken a photo of the staff as proof but I decided to be a decent human and respect the privacy of the employees.
