we had a reservation for 7:30 and they told us that it would be a 10 minute wait since the table before us was just finishing up dessert. when they told us this it was already 7:35 because they took so long even acknowledging anyone in the line at the front because they don't have someone who greets you at the front immediately. this meant we weren't gonna get seated until 7:45 - 15 min past our initial reservation. we sat down & waited while they proceeded to let other parties in before us. one couple walked in & they did not have a reservation & the server told them they could be seated immediately - while we were still waiting for our table. mind you, they also had people on a waitlist already & they proceeded to let that couple in BEFORE notifying the people on the waitlist (the waitlisted people ended up coming in after us even though they put themselves on the waitlist right when we got there). at 8:00, there was a huge line of people waiting and nobody came to check in with any of us for the longest time. when a server finally did come, they proceeded to speak with people in line behind us first. we had to go up to the server ourselves and ask why we were not yet seated - 30 minutes after our reservation. the server was clueless that we were even sitting there waiting for our table even though she was the one who we talked to when we first arrived. when we finally got seated, the first thing we saw was that 50% of the tables were empty. so it was extremely frustrating that we had to wait 30 minutes to be seated when there were plenty of empty tables - we were also only a party of 2. even more disappointing that the server seemed to not care about us at all considering that she literally forgot about us. the food was not that great. we got the carbonara and fennel sausage pizza. the carbonara sauce tasted like it was just coated around the noodles but not creamy at all. the flavour itself was very bland and the bacon bits were extremely salty. the flavour of the fennel sausage pizza was better though. overall service was really, really disappointing. servers were hardly around so it was even hard to get their attention for the bill because they just weren't anywhere to be found. i think being understaffed is one thing, but having your staff forget about reservations or being this disorganized is another. overall a really disappointing and frustrating experience for food that wasn't...

We were pleasantly surprised to see Cacio e Pepe on the menu, as this is a dish we have cooked before. We ordered this as well as the Carbonara to compare the two.
The staff were overly accommodating, which added to the overall feel of the restaurant. They made friendly conversation and ensured we were having a good time throughout the evening.
Our food arrived in a timely manner and with fair portion sizes. One dish would definitely have been enough for one of us, which made sharing the two plates very easy. We were surprised by not receiving spoons on the table, but they brought them out to us soon after the food was served.
The Cacio e Pepe was exactly what we were expecting: strong flavors, but still light and simple. The original recipe calls for only three ingredients: ground pepper, pecorino cheese and thick spaghetti (tagliatelle). The restaurant stayed true to this dish and executed perfectly.
The Carbonara is a descendant of the Cacio e Pepe dish. You take the three main ingredients and add egg and guanciale. We didn't know what to expect with this dish since we'd never had it prepared so properly. The pepper flavours were less pronounced in this dish as they were drowned out by the smokey, thick taste of the guanciale. This dish felt heavier and a little greasier than the Cacio e Pepe but was still quite enjoyable as a standalone meal.
The price of the meals were slightly higher than we had expected at $22/plate but when the atmosphere, location and staff are taken into account, we felt it was fair. The restaurant was busy, and despite this we did not need to wait for a table.
Overall, we had a great dining experience at Di Beppe, and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for an authentic Italian restaurant. Our only drawback was not receiving bread and olive oil, but the small pastry dessert was a wonderful free touch to conclude...
Read moreThe first thing my partner and I noticed, apart from feeling a bit uneasy in the neighborhood, was the awkward layout of the venue. You enter through the adjacent cafe which is doing its own brisk business while confused patrons like myself try to navigate the choke point. While we watched the staff shouting orders for drinks and takeout pizza we wondered what the Ukrainian restaurant across the street was like while we waited for our table to open (we had reservations and arrived 10 minutes early). We were seated, and I noted that the tall chairs were designed for people with skinny butts only (not me), so a bit uncomfortable. The tables are a little too close together so don't expect any intimate conversations. The venue is also extremely loud so don't expect any intimate conversations. In fact I had a bit of a tinnitus flare up. The woman who sat us seemed professional but curt, whereas our server was pleasant and warm. We ordered a beer, nothing special - $10. We ordered meatball appetizers - $19 for three, quite tasty. We were told about the pasta feature which was ravioli - had to ask what the price was as the server didn't volunteer it ($30). Even though it was more expensive than the item I was planning on going with, I opted for it because - it's the feature, right? Gotta be good! It was actually fairly bland, and small portion for the price. I ended up picking food from my partner's dish - amatriciana pasta. Wondering what that is? Its sauce with tomato and Guanciale. Wondering what that is? Cured pork cheek. I guess it would be gauche for an Italian restaurant to list their food in English (even in parentheses). $28 for that, and it was quite flavorful. All of our food arrived quickly. We were provided a bottle of water and the napkins were also nice. My wife agreed that the food was all about 20% too expensive for what it was, and the experience itself was, in my partner's...
