All I can say is wow! I just moved into the area and have started exploring more of Gastown. Back when I used to be a hostess at the boathouse restaurant in Kitsilano 10 years ago, I used to go to the local across the street. Their fish tacos are to die for, and I recommend every single tourist and Vancouverite to order them! I called and placed my order over the phone. Whoever answered the phone was so inviting and so warm and so full of energy. I got transferred to - I’m assuming somebody at the bar, and I placed my order. I walk in and there is Fabiana, she is so personable. I feel like we have been friends for years, we’re just cracking jokes, and I think she was probably the most amazing hostess there could ever be. There seems to be some sort of confusion at this point about my order, but it’s honestly no big deal at all, I’m having a blast chatting with the host and I am more than happy to wait a few more minutes for my order to be ready for takeout. Aileen takes my order, I give her a difficult request of asking for half fries half salad, she says it’s no big deal at all ! Aileen then directs me to the bar and says please wait over here and you can order a drink on me, surprised, and shocked, I asked her are you sure anything? She says anything girl, on me! I am so giddy with happiness right now, I order a Casamigo margarita. the margarita was absolutely delicious. The bartender was so kind and And prompt with his Mixology skills. Order comes out within less than five minutes. Aileen Brings the bill to me, she skips over the tip, not expecting to get anything extra. I tell her to go back to the tip page so I can give her 20%. We chatted for a little bit more and I thanked her profusely for her customer service. I get home a few minutes later and I take my first bite into the most delicious meal I have ever had in my entire life. I called the restaurant and let them know exactly how I felt and I truly Think they deserve all the stars. Vancouver needs to take some lessons from local Gastown because they are phenomenal in Every way shape and form.
Thank you, ladies so much!,Aileen , I know that this Sunday is your last day, but I hope that wherever you go next in your life that you will be happy and be appreciated because you are truly such a great worker. Fabiana is so incredibly personable and local would be silly not to promote her to a server sometime soon!
I also want to mention one more thing, the staff seem to enjoy working so much, and they love interacting with each other. The song fireflies by Owl City came on and everyone was in sync singing together and I thought that was so beautiful. So many times I have come across restaurants where everyone looks miserable and they look like they’re not happy to be there or there’s some sort of animosity in the room. But this was truly an amazing experience.
My partner and I always visit different restaurants in Vancouver and we are so disappointed with the Lack of customer service yet Pushing the tipping culture upon us. Local has restored my faith in the food and beverage industry. I will be coming back quite frequently and I was very pleased. Thank you local gastown...
Read moreBuckle up, Earthlings, because what I’m about to recount isn’t just a dinner — it was a full-blown interstellar experience captained by none other than Commander Lexi, bartender, server, and high priestess of cosmic hospitality at Local Gastown.
We entered the establishment like weary space travelers crash-landing on a strange but promising planet. The air smelled of burgers, tequila, and mild ambition. Then — boom — Lexi appeared. Radiant. Efficient. Slightly glittery. She didn’t walk to our table; she glided, as if her Skechers were powered by dark matter and good intentions.
Within moments, she’d taken our chaotic, scattered energies and realigned them like planetary rings. “What are you in the mood for?” she asked, and the question hit me harder than my third existential crisis. I mumbled something about space dust and grapefruit, and Lexi — without hesitation — summoned a drink that tasted like Carl Sagan’s dreams distilled into liquid form. Refreshing, complex, a little dangerous — just like her.
She wasn’t just serving food and drinks. No, Lexi was conducting a galactic symphony of flavor, laughter, and the unspoken agreement that if humanity had more people like her, we’d already be sipping mezcal on Mars. When she delivered our fries, she didn’t just place them down — she presented them, like a relic unearthed from an ancient moon base and seasoned by the tears of joyful astronauts.
The restaurant was full — shoulder-to-shoulder with hungry, loud, possibly Martian patrons — but Lexi moved through the chaos like a Jedi with table numbers instead of a lightsaber. She took orders telepathically (probably), remembered complex modifications like a CPU running on oat milk, and dropped one-liners that made me laugh so hard I snorted a bit of my own orbit.
Now, I don’t know what Abe Lincoln would say about Lexi, but I do know that if she had been around during the Gettysburg Address, he’d have scrapped the speech entirely and said, “This nation, under Lexi, shall have a new birth of table service — and that government of the people, by the people, shall order another round immediately.”
So yeah. Was it dinner? Technically. But emotionally? Spiritually? Existentially? It was a trip across the stars led by a woman who could make even a black hole feel welcome.
Final report: Lexi is not of this world. Local Gastown is her spaceship. And we are but lucky passengers in her orbit.
Would beam up...
