I wish I remember the young lady's name that took our order and took care of us. She was fantastic!
The food was very good, I tried all new things. Again I can't remember what the stew/soup was called but it was very tasty. It came with a nice chunk of bread, and fantastic bread at that. My friends and I we shared a meet board that had thin slices of smoked pork and I think garlic pork. It also came with some really nice squares of delicious dark bread. Generous portions very filling, lots of flavour. We each had a glass of their non-alcoholic house beverage, I can't remember what it was called either, but it reminds me of Kombucha, we all really enjoyed it. One of my friends had the borscht and said it was fabulous. We shared an order of the pork and the beef cabbage rolls. No complaints about any of the food, we enjoyed the meal thoroughly and I would definitely go back again.
Atmosphere wise, it was fine. Felt clean. I find the biggest problem with most eateries these days, is physical comfort. I was unfortunate to sit on one of the chairs versus the bench which had cushioning, the chairs don't. I have a bad back and sitting on Hard surfaces is always extremely challenging. A small cushion of some sort would be great. I understand it's extra work and extra cleaning, of course extra cost, but these kind of things make a mess of difference to people like myself. The other issue I have with most eateries, is the fact that they're often frequently loud. There is nothing for the sounds to be absorbed by, and it's a constant bouncing of noise, where you strain to hear what your company is saying, and you feel like you're yelling in order to have a conversation. Unfortunately this is a problem here as well. If you use hearing aids you might want to just turn them off.
All in all, as I said, I would definitely go back. I enjoyed the experience of the different foods. However, that being said, I may just order...
Read moreI had a wonderful experience. Our server Vlad was incredibly hospitable, kind, helpful as suggesting some amazing dishes and had a great charm to him. I had ordered the bacon potato, and pork perogies. They were cooked very well and were incredibly delicious, they had a nice crunchy crust with nice hot filling, with the sour cream and saurkraut (my partner, she absolutely loved the saurkraut, it had a great flavor) made it some of the best perogies I've had in a long time. I also ordered the eggplant which had a nice nutty flavor, I did not expect it to be a cold dish, but was absolutely blown away! Finally I had ordered the mushroom cabbage rolls, another very classic dish, but bursting with so much flavor, and was packed with lots of filling, they were nice and tender and hot. Vlad had suggested a classic Ukrainian drink to go with my very authentic Ukrainian meal, he suggested I tried the Tvazz, it is a sort of sweet rye soda, it almost tasted like a non alcoholic honey beer, it was very delicious and went so well with my meal. I also never usually order dessert, but seeing how they home made lots of their pastries, breads and desserts, I had to try the double chocolate cookie and the honeyball which they suggested, to take home. Both were very soft and decadent, but not too sweet, I enjoyed them so much and was a nice finish to my meal and experience. I absolutely love how kind the staff were and how they loved suggesting great dishes to my taste, would definitely come back again and suggest this place to my friends for authentic Ukrainian food. I hadn't had such wonderful Ukranian food in a long time, and this brough me back to a great memory in my childhood. I can't wait to return to try some other items, and just to see the warm smiles on the...

Kozak Ukrainian Restaurant is one of those places where the moment you walk in, it feels like home. The warm wood accents, exposed brick, and welcoming energy set the tone for a comforting, flavor-packed meal that brings Eastern Europe right to the heart of Vancouver.
Let’s start with the food — absolutely phenomenal. We ordered the borscht, varenyky (perogies), and holubtsi (cabbage rolls), and every dish tasted authentic, homemade, and deeply satisfying. The perogies were soft and pillowy, filled with perfectly seasoned potato and cheese, and served with caramelized onions and sour cream. And don’t sleep on the desserts — the honey cake was divine.
The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and happy to share a bit about the dishes and traditions behind them, which made the whole experience feel even more special.
Prices are fair, portions are generous, and everything is made from scratch with heart. Whether you're Ukrainian or just curious about the cuisine, Kozak delivers both comfort and quality in every bite.
Highly recommended for a cozy dinner, cultural experience, or just a break from the usual. You’ll leave full, happy, and maybe even planning your return before you’ve paid...
