This is a five star review based on sheer simplicity. Evelyn's is a wonderful, hole-in-the-wall, frozen-in-time, diner-from-another-era cafe. There are no $12.99 avocado toast menu items to be found here. There is straightforward grilled cheese and crinkle-cut fries for six bucks and change. There is toast and eggs and sausages. There are burgers and sandwiches, made quick and served hot. Processed cheese, ketchup packets and salt and pepper shakers. brewed coffee and cans of grape crush. As a twist, they do make some tasty dishes you might not find in other diners: generous portions of wonton soup in a tasty broth, which you can order with noodles for an extra dollar, or maybe you prefer lemon chicken with chow mein. Add a soup for a couple of bucks more (I am vegetarian these days, but I used to order the wontons at least once a week).
The decor is straight out of the 70's. Basic metal-leg cafe tables with wood veneer surfaces and condiment caddies on each table; harvest-gold yellow paint on the walls, and seating for maybe 20 people.
Call ahead for a take-out order if you like ("ready in five minutes" will always be your reply!), but sitting in house is great if you like a bit of a throwback environment.
I hope the modern era never takes over this place, and I hope it stays...

That was over a year ago when I walked into this inconspicuous cafe. My outfit was still soaking wet from the rain when I ordered this Breakfast, and I still remember being pleasantly surprised that they have sourdough toast as an option. Try to feel my satisfaction when I could still see the golden grease rushing out of the pores of the smoking bread after it was served, and all of that visual activation gets backed up by the olfactory and the gustatory (yummy).
And all this for less than $15. A steal in this economy.
The portions were and still are generous, and I say this as someone with a highly active lifestyle and a huge appetite. I am only a little bit bummed when they raised their prices just a few months back, even though it's by a small amount.
Heals my soul, at an affordable price. 9.9 out of 10. Points off for that...

Ordered the "beef and broccoli " I mean, I was expecting the ordinary filler type food. Was pleasantly surprised to find that this was some of the most flavorful beef and broccoli I've ever had!
Went back the next day to try the all day breakfast. Didn't strike me as incredible as the beef and broccoli. But was a solid feed. And 100% felt satisfied with the experience again.
This place is definitely out of my way, but will make the trip a few more times to see what else they have for hidden gems
There is no washroom far as I could tell. Staff have been very friendly. Food is cheap, Packed with flavor, and comes out fast. Extensive menu, something for everyone.
Would recommend this place to anyone Specifically to people working in the area needing a...
