I went to this café for the first time to try this type of tiramisu pancakes. The latte was just as I liked it, and the tiramisu was reasonable, but the egg taste was too strong, which was the only thing I didn't like. Overall, the experience was a 6/10.
In terms of the overall atmosphere: One of the baristas' stares when I entered were one of surprise rather than welcome, which I strongly reject. You're supposed to welcome all your customers of all ethnicities, otherwise you should clearly state your racial biases in the shop from the outset. However, I didn't find the same from the other baristas.
An Asian customer entered and stared, revealing her social immaturity as if it was the first time she had seen someone of a different ethnicity. Another Asian male stared with sick eyes, revealing his immaturity. There's nothing more impudent than these racists, who are themselves immigrants and not in their own lands and countries.
And also the dramatic situation that happened was very immature and toxic and it was the first very sick situation with this toxicity and psychological immaturity that happened to me in a public cafe in my entire life, as I was drinking my coffee peacefully at my table and an Asian insecure female came in with a white males and he was looking at me and I ignored him, and he was also looking at several women in the cafe but she was specifically targeted me (covert racism as I am the only one from different ethnicity in the café at that time) and with all the very immaturity and insecurity that she exposed her true self, she was looking side eyes at me while I was busy with myself with all her very impudence and immaturity in which she exposed that she is psychologically insecure and sick and in a disturbed relationship with herself and with him and she was busy with me instead of controlling her male who is the one who stares at women. When I left the cafe, she followed me like a madwoman and started walking fast in front of me, trying to compete with me 🤮while this was a sidewalk in the street, not a battlefield and competition, as if she was a toddler in a marathon. He was behind her, trying to please her, then they stopped and he was staring at me and trying with all his cowardice and very immaturity to delude himself and blame me as if I was the cause of their sick relationship. They are absolutely abnormal. Their relationship is very distorted, and they are psychologically and socially immature. They are disturbed and insecure in themselves. They delude themselves into this backward play that exposes their true nature: disturbed, immature, passive-aggressive, cowardly, and immaturely competitive. She, due to her immaturity, insecurity, and cowardice, instead of (controlling her partner who was looking at me and all the other women in the café), deludes herself and exposes herself with all her immaturity, that she is competing with me, and he, due to his disloyalty to her, instead of taking responsibility for his immature actions, tries to escape them in a delusional attempt in his sick mind, only to blame me for his disloyalty. While the truth is that they have exposed their mental disorders, psychological distortions, immaturity, and extremely toxic relationship, which is devoid of loyalty and security. That is their problem and it does not concern me or make any difference to me. They stupidly revealed themselves only to me. I am above this backwardness and I am not competing with immature females who are insecure about themselves and do not have enough self-esteem to the point that they continue in a relationship with a disloyal male who looks at all women and is not satisfied with her. I am not responsible for inferiority complexes and problems of confused relationships and lack of loyalty to some of them. Shame and guilt on them for these toxic and...
Read moreI have made 2 trips to Fufú Café so far, and while I have really enjoyed the pancakes, I am unsure if I will make another visit due to the attitudes of the employees.
When it comes to their food, Fufú does great- I’ve tried their (past) Summer Special, the Strawberry Cheesecake Soufflé Pancake🍓🥞, which was delightful. The pancakes were soft and fluffy, the cheese cream was absolutely delicious and went amazingly with the dish, the ice cream was perfect, and the strawberries were sweet. The Seasonal Special Mango Daifuku Soufflé Pancake 🥭🥞 was also quite good, though the mango on the side was a little difficult to eat. Overall, there were hardly any complaints to be held with the food. If you don’t mind waiting 45 minutes for the pancakes to come out, as they need time to prepare them, I’m sure you’ll enjoy your dishes!! 🤍 Things aren’t the cheapest here, but I think for a special once-in-a-while treat and the quality, it’s worth it!
What you might not enjoy, however, is the service provided by the employees, in particular the front of house. Upon arrival, me and my sister stood at the door for several minutes before an employee asked if we had a reservation. While I usually don’t nitpick, as I sympathize that hospitality jobs are stressful/tiring, the employee didn’t offer a “hello” and seemed slightly irritated by our arrival, as her tone was unwelcoming and flat. I realize that not having a reservation may be annoying for the employees, but the attitude received seemed disproportionate and unjustified. For the rest of the visit, attitudes from employees continued to be either neutral or slightly negative.
The second time me and my sister went to Fufú, we were greeted by the same annoyed/dismissive tone. Furthermore, a couple moments after we were seated, we were asked to return to waiting in line, as that table was actually reserved. We understand that mistakes happen and I appreciated the apology given by the waitress, but for that to occur after 10(+) minutes of waiting, feeling relatively unwelcome, and not seeing anybody show up to take the reserved table- it left a bad taste. We ended up eating somewhere else for the day.
So, I strongly encourage everybody to make reservations!! As the Café is on the smaller side, waiting for a table to open up means you’ll be standing in a corner right by the door. Also, I’d strongly recommend AGAINST going here with a large group (3+), unless you’ve made a reservation prior! The dining space is not that big, and while there are both booth/table and bar/window options for seating, it’s likely that you’ll end up waiting for quite a while if you have a large party. The decor and interior is pleasing and pretty, but at the end of the day, it’s still a small space.
Maybe someday, I’ll return again- I’d truly like to, as I loved the pancakes so much! But for now, I’m content with going to other places...
Read moreFantastic little pancake cafe in Vancouver. Very fluffy soufflé pancakes that are reminiscent of the ones I had in Osaka. If you have not had Japanese soufflé pancakes before, it requires a slow cooking process so be aware that it will be 20-25 minutes from order to get your food. There is only a 1 hour seating policy so it’s best if you know what you want to order ahead of time if you want to chill and chat at the table. They only hold your reservation for 15 minutes after your scheduled time, so don’t be late.
Ambience: A small, cute and cosy cafe. Clean and bright ambience. Has about four 4-seater tables and some window seats, so be sure to give them a call at least a day ahead to make a reservation, otherwise you'll be forced to wait outside (as per covid protocols) until a table clears up. It's fun to watch the chefs work on the soufflés from the kitchen windows.
Food: We ordered a peppermint hot chocolate, an Earl Grey latte, and a ruby hot chocolate. Cute little drinks with generous swirls of whipping cream; smaller than I expected; came warm rather than hot. Peppermint and earl grey had nice flavour and not overly sweet. The peppermint tasted like a subtle After Eight chocolate drink so that was nice. Ruby hot chocolate tasted more like a milky hot chocolate, so I would have wanted more of that tangy, berry taste that I expect from ruby chocolate if that’s what’s being advertised.
We ordered the seasonal Mont Blanc (chestnut paste) pancakes, and the Matcha pancakes. Very fluffy, very airy, very jiggly. Take photos fast because you want to get in there as soon as possible before the pancakes deflate. Both were delightful, and passes my family's "not too sweet" test. I appreciate the chunks of chestnut, but I do wish there was more hojicha mousse or hojicha-flavoured items on the mont blanc. The matcha sauce is has a full, bittersweet matcha taste that goes with the mochi and sweeter matcha ice cream that comes with it. If you’re a green tea enthusiast, get this.
Cost : The pancakes range from $14-17 and definitely what you want to come for. We all left very full. The specialty drinks were a nice accompaniment, though on the pricey side.
Overall, I’d definitely go back here to try other flavours of their pancake, and to try their sandos. The photos they show online is definitely what...
