I received a gorgeous opal ring from my boyfriend. It was very sweet and touching as the ring was originally a 40th wedding anniversary gift from his grandfather to his grandmother 34 years ago.
I brought my ring in to be resized at Kingdom Jewelry. I have never used them before, but they had good reviews and I decided to give it a try. When I brought in the ring, Dylan explained the resizing process to me and let me know that the goldsmith would need to remove the opal as it is quite fragile to avoid any damage. The ring also had 3 small diamonds on either side of the opal, which he didn’t mention would need to be touched.
I came in on Sunday and was promised the ring to be ready by Monday end of day. The ring wasn’t ready on Monday. It was not ready on Friday either when I decided to call. Finally, on Saturday I was able to pick it up and was happy to see that it fit pretty well. However, when I got home I realized that one of the small diamonds was missing. I was in complete shock and called Kingdom Jewelry immediately. All they could say is that they were sorry and asked me to come back to take a look. The moment I hung up the phone I noticed that all of the diamonds on the left side of the ring were missing! They kept falling out! Luckily, I was able to find 2 of them on the floor, but the third one remained missing.
When we talked to Dylan on the phone he argued that it is an old ring and that it is expected that the diamonds might fall out. How can you say something like this? The ring was perfectly fine for three decades and nothing happened to it! He also didn't warn me about this prior to taking on the job.
We went back to the store and offered a solution. We didn’t want them to touch the ring again as we had no trust that they would do a good job. We offered to take the ring to another jeweller and create two new objects. The first object would be a ring with the opal stone just by itself. The second ring would have the remaining 5 diamonds. The owner of the store refused the offer right away - his best solution was to put in a new diamond in place of the missing one. This is a family heirloom and a very sentimental object, as my boyfriend’s grandfather passed away last year and the missing diamond is impossible to replace. The ring is not the same without it!
This didn’t sit right with me or my boyfriend - I don’t want the ring to be a constant reminder of this when I look at it. The new diamond will stand out next to the rest of them. There will also be the bad energy left in the ring.
He replaced the lost diamond, but we chose not to let him put it in the ring.
Be careful when you go to jewelry shops - this problem could have easily been resolved if the owner showed some responsibility for...
Read moreTerrible experience having a custom ring designed here. The stone that was set in the ring was not the stone I chose in person, it was ultimately a smaller weight with greater occlusion than the stone I paid for. They claimed it was a mistake but it breaks my heart to this day many years later. I found that Dylan and Natasha were not really listening to me the whole time, and the finished product look absolutely nothing like the sketches they provided during the design process. I’m not sure how they’ve maintained a high rating but I figured I should add my experience.
EDIT: they responded to my review, they admit there was a “miscommunication” about the exact stone. This really hides the extent of the problem. It wasn’t a miscommunication about the weight of the a particular stone, it’s that we ended up receiving an entirely different stone that the one I choose. The stone we chose had no occlusion, the stone we received had a large occlusion. We have a lot of documentation on this matter. They point out the fact that I have left one star reviews at Dairy Queen and subways as if it vilifies them somehow. It does not. Me being unsatisfied with ice cream in the past does not diminish the fact that we received a different stone. They also imply that we never raised these concerns to them, which is untrue. I raised these concerns with them which were ultimately never resolved. If you give people the product you promise, you can avoid these...
Read moreI have many, many things to say about Kingdom as a whole but in particular about Olivia. For our overall experience: I have been consistently very impressed with the flexibility and patience of all the staff, as well as their transparency throughout the entire process. At no point did I feel the pricing or any element of this process was unfair, and I felt confident in their capacity to execute our vision.
Here’s my long paragraph for Olivia in particular: since my first meeting with Olivia I knew I was in the best of hands for this process. She is so incredibly knowledgeable, so patient, and so good at listening to what you are saying… all of this combined, she was able to help me parse through exactly what I wanted. I don’t say this lightly, as for multiple years I thought I wanted a particular cut, but after looking at so many (sourced largely by Olivia in the particular ratio/carat weight I was hoping for) and something still feeling not quite right, Olivia was able to guide me to a stone that felt very right! She is so good at her job and in shines through immediately and throughout every interaction. Through every step she was lovely and enthusiastic and put so much effort into helping me find something perfect for me. I’m really grateful to have had her guidance, knowledge, and good taste to rely on, and so pleased, giddy, and happy to have a product that feels very much like me (more so than I...
