This incident actually took place a few years back but I was encouraged to submit a review. I used to frequent Hundy when it was the late night take over that ran out of the Their There location. Covid came along and my work provided staff with Gift Cards to local establishments as part of their support local initiative that was popular during covid. Covid was a strange time and somewhere in between, Hundy left the location at Their There and opened up at the Homer St. location. My wife and I wanted to try the new location so remembering I had a $100 gift card, we headed down to Hundy to have what we remembered to be a delicious Burger and fried chicken sandwich. Place our order, hand over my Gift card that displayed "HUNDY" in big letters on the front, the employee taking our order started looking at the card and then said "oh, you'll have to talk to our manager to see if they will accept this" confused, i said "but its a GC from you guys", the employee said " but its from the old location so i don't think they will accept it". More confused, she lead me to a door on the side that went down into a hidden bar establishment, she points me to these 2 guys standing behind the bar and says "they are the managers". I explain to them what I was trying to do, which i already thought this was such a strange thing to have to explain and they both looked at the card and say " oh yah, no we wont take that" i asked why since its a GC to Hundy? and was told they bought the business off someone else so they weren't honoring the GC's from the old location anymore. When i explained that when you purchase a business you assume all that businesses liabilities including GC's regardless of which location they were issued out of. They both just said "yah were not taking it" So we left, never have returned and never...
Read moreWhen I found out that a former owner of the Oakwood Bistro (which is sadly long gone) now opened up Hundy, we were excited to try this place out. You see, the Oakwood burger was legendary. Their kale salad was also a favourite of ours. At Hundy we had a couple of cheeseburgers, but they forgot to put the cheese on! So we mentioned it then got some “attitude” in return. Hundy is nowhere close to the quality of the Oakwood burger. The quality of the meat was inferior. Why not just bring back the Oakwood burger as an item on the menu and charge extra for the more expensive ingredients? People who want a premium burger would gladly pay for it. It seems like a no brainer to me. Especially when the owner already knows how to make a legendary burger. If they did that, and didn’t try to save on their food costs, but actually brought back the genuine Oakwood burger of old, then we would make the trip out from Coquitlam quite often, and we would bring friends along with us, especially if the former Oakwood kale salad was brought back. For one of my wife’s birthdays we went with about 20 people to the Oakwood Bistro and everyone raved about the Oakwood burger. When you have already created a legendary burger why would you not include it on the menu after opening a dedicated burger shop like Hundy? Makes no sense to me. Many people in Vancouver are not stupid. They can tell the difference in quality. I’ll give it a 2/5 based on a honest review of the burgers we had at Hundy (with Hundy sauce in it), but our disappointment with them for not having anything remotely close to the famous Oakwood burger of old makes me feel like...
Read moreHundy has been on my radar since their soft opening. I sat at home watching their instagram stories of people snapping photos of their burgers and fries. Yesterday night, I had enough, it was time to try out Hundy.
First impressions, the music playlist really sets the vibe of the whole place. I love how they converted this place into a restaurant at night and a coffee shop by day. I also like that the take my phone number and text me when my table is ready approach.
It’s a counter service restaurant (like PDX restaurants) so while we waited for our table we ordered beers. Their beers are constantly changing but I had the Farmhouse 33 Acres experiment beer and it was amazing. It’s a very refreshing IPA without too many hops and fruity flavours.
Alright, 4th paragraph in, I should start talking about the food. I ordered the bacon cheese burger with fries. The sauce in the burger is what makes this burger amazing. It’s hard to explain what it is, but their secret sauce is boss. Bun, patty, veg, and cheese were all great sidekicks in this burger. But, the true Robin to the Batman were the fries. These fries… their like my crown jewel of fries… places like Cockney Kings and other OG fish and chips places. You think you come here for the burger, but when you leave… the fries are what you think about.
My buddy Bryan ordered the bacon poutine with a chicken burger. I tried the poutine and must say it was worth the $7. As for his review of the chicken burger, he said, “I’ll be back.”.
Once I posted the pics on IG, the DMs exploded with, “How was it?” “Is...
