After a really fun day at the circus with my girlfriends we decided to explore Vancouver before heading back home (we don’t live in Vancouver). We all know ‘exploring’ any city without trying a new restaurant is really not exploring so of course we started looking for one and we were spoilt for choice as we were in the China town area and there were lots to choose from. We decided to go into JFC because one of my girlfriends remembers she had something really good from there before so in we went!
The pick up area looked very unassuming to me but we’re told very courteously to go next door where we could eat in as that was our preference…then the adventure began! We were welcomed very warmly at the door and got seated pretty quickly. Our orders came rather quickly too (we were a party of 5 and we all ordered 2 types of meals so maybe that helped). One of us wasn’t sure about the drink to order but the absolutely lovely Sabrine of Juke Fried Chicken asked what she liked and came up with a drink she liked! Sabrine was lovely, funny and warm all while being very efficient. The food…the food was goooood! We all liked what we ordered and the portions are good too. The dressed fries was so flavourful and the fries somehow remained crisp even after I got home with my leftovers. Ribs comes clean off the bone but not ridiculously soft and soggy. And the chicken was great! The ambience was cozy, the patrons seemed nice and even though I didn’t go in the washroom myself I hear it was clean and nice. Juke Fried Chicken made an already memorable day extra special! Definitely an experience I look forward to...
Read moreIf you’re a fan of chicken and waffles, this spot is worth a visit, though it has its highs and lows. Here’s the breakdown:
The Good: The waffles were a standout for me! They had jalapeños baked into the batter, which added a unique kick to the flavor. It was such a creative twist that really elevated the dish. They also served the waffles with a seasoned butter that I absolutely loved—it had a savory, almost herby taste that complemented the spicy jalapeño waffles perfectly.
The Not-So-Good: I ordered the fried chicken with the chili flavor for an additional charge, but unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations. I was hoping for a hot, spicy variant of fried chicken with a crispy exterior, but what I got was chicken coated in a thick tangy chili sauce. It made the crispy outer layer of the chicken soggy, which took away from the classic fried chicken experience. This might just be a personal preference, but it wasn’t what I was expecting.
The Atmosphere: The place is very small, with only two tables inside and a couple of metal benches outside. It’s more of a grab-and-go kind of spot than a sit-down restaurant. That said, the service was friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall experience.
Overall, the waffles and butter alone are worth trying, especially for those who enjoy bold flavors. As for the chicken, I’d recommend sticking to the classic version if you’re a fan of crispy fried chicken. Despite some misses, the friendly service and creative touches make this a spot to consider, especially if you’re...

HIDDEN GEM of Vancouver, you must eat here.....!
I was dying for some good fried chicken and started the google search. I love riding my bike from home to Science World Park and this place was peppered with great reviews, now I know why. I bought the chicken nuggets and fries for my kiddo and grabbed a chicken sandwich for myself. They were super friendly and professional. When we opened our food at the park to eat we were impressed by their presentation of take away food. The packaging and napkins are excellent quality. The chicken sandwich was displayed like a magazine picture. You could see the bun and condiments at first glance. The chicken was fresh and crunchy. The bun was so soft and fresh. The chicken nuggets were absolutely amazing, what a crunch! Somehow I was given a second chicken sandwich when I had only ordered one. What an awesome surprise....!! It was so good that I feel like going back to pay for it. I will leave a big tip next time as this crew deserves it. The place has a nice vibe and atmosphere. I am currently unemployed and have to budget wisely so we only eat out once a month. I will definitely use more of my budgeted days here!
I didn't expect a fried chicken pace to have great dessert. The peanut butter cookie was amazing. I will pop in to grab a cookie to eat with my coffee on my walk to school next week.
This place is the definition of a "Hidden Gem."
Do yourself a favour and get some chicken here. You will not be...
