I'm going to be blunt and cut to the chase. This is a message to the owner for awareness and is directed at the kitchen staff. Everyone else has been wonderful (barista and servers). My wife was livid and I don't blame her after learning what had happened during the afternoon on April 27. First of all, when you identify yourself as an employee and a customer asks you a question about something that is not in your job description, at least relay the question to someone else on your team that can help. Don't just ignore the customer.
Second of all, my wife needed to go to the washroom and asked for the washroom key. A DALINA employee communicated to her that both the staff and customer keys are in use and to just queue at the washroom door. So another customer that was in one of the washrooms comes out with staff key and a DALINA employee from the kitchen walks by to abruptly grab the keys out of the customer's hands just as it was being passed to my wife. The employee proceeds to the freezer without communicating anything with my wife and the other customer. Surprised at what just transpired, the other customer kindly holds the washroom door to let my wife through. The same employee yells at my wife that she needed a key.
Food service inspection tip: Did this employee just violate health regulations by NOT washing your hands after taking the washroom key? And then proceeded to handle food?
Was it necessary for a DALINA employee to take the keys back while there was clearly a customer waiting to use the washroom as directed? If the staff key was distributed to the customer in error, that's for you to sort out internally as a team. Talk about it privately so that you're all on the same page. Lashing out at the customer where there obviously was an internal misunderstanding on the correct washroom protocol was extremely rude and unprofessional.
If it was you and you're reading this, I suggest you reflect on your poor decisions and perhaps think a little bit more about the customer service aspect...

DALINA is one of my favorite spots in Vancouver, it always offers delicious drinks and customer services. This evening, I stopped for a cup of hot chocolate, and found three men, two of them were awesome gentlemen, while the third (the tallest and wearing a mask) looked like a newcomer to Canada .
Here is how things went.. while I was waiting for my turn , this man was free, taskless. He was staring at me fragmentary but avoided serving me, but soon a non-black man came and stood behind me, he rushed to serve him, and sure enough that man got served before me.
Make no mistake about it, I am not here to complain, I am writing to remind those who were born and raised in homogeneous countries or in social environments infested with dogma that it is not your fault that you imbibe the curriculum of hatred and racism, but the mistake is that a person lives in the 21st century and travels to live or study in a country like Canada and yet he remains Victim of hatred.
Traveling is enriching human experience, unleashing potentials and maximizing opportunities, but only for those who have the courage to upgrade their minds, unlearn the dogmatic norms that are taught by society and open their hearts for love.
You are in Canada, humanize your behavior and be...
Read moreThere's many good things about this place that makes it a nice place to study/work: plenty of space good food and drinks, outdoor patio free sparking water good wifi nice music plenty of wall plugs
However, there are few things they can improve on, with one big problem in particular: The indoor seating area next to the fridge has terrible ventilation. There is a very strong smoke and pungent odour (probably coming from the open kitchen just beside it) constantly lingering and it can be quite unpleasant when you're there for a long time. After I got home, my clothes stunk of the stench and my wife even commented on it. The bathroom requires a key. When I'm here for a long time, I end up drinking lots of fluids, which makes me go to the bathroom often. It's annoying (and slightly embarrassing) to have to get the keys from the counter every time. The outdoor patio was not heated when I was here. It was a sunny day but the outside temperature was around 10C. The outdoor tables were shaky
Overall, I recommend this place, but next time I will dress warm and work in the patio to avoid...
