This Cha Chaan Teng is one of the most well-known in the area, with a long history and a reputation as the main branch. While the interior shows its age, with a slightly worn but nostalgic atmosphere, it carries a charm that reflects its authenticity and legacy. Stepping inside feels like visiting an old favorite spot that has been serving comfort food for generations.
We ordered a variety of dishes to try. The daily special set featured pan-fried chicken on spaghetti with Hong Kong–style tomato sauce. The chicken was well-seasoned, juicy, and tender, while the spaghetti stood out because it had been pre-mixed with tomato sauce — making it flavorful in every bite rather than simply being topped with sauce. The set also included a cup of Hong Kong–style milk tea, which was robust, silky, and very authentic, just as one would expect from a proper Cha Chaan Teng.
We also had the Canton-style soup braised beef tendon, brisket, and yau choi (choy sum). The tendon and brisket were both tender and flavorful, showing that they had been carefully prepared. However, the vegetable was slightly undercooked, which interrupted an otherwise excellent bowl.
Another highlight was the Hong Kong–style curry with pan-fried beef brisket served on Hainanese chicken-flavored rice. The pan-fried brisket had a crisp exterior with a tender bite inside, pairing beautifully with the curry, which was rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying. The Hainanese-style rice underneath absorbed the flavors perfectly and was delicious on its own.
To end the meal, the restaurant generously offered us complimentary Chinese dessert, a thoughtful touch that added warmth to the dining experience.
Overall, this visit was extremely satisfying. The food was flavorful and authentic, with each dish offering its own distinctive appeal. While the setting may be aged, it carries the charm of a classic Cha Chaan Teng, and the service felt attentive and genuine. We will definitely be returning to enjoy more of their...
Read moreI’ve visited Mui Garden since I moved here from Asia and this location on Victoria in the last 5 years. Prices have gone way up and many dishes suffered quality decline or ingredient changes, but the iconic curry beef brisket hasn’t been touched which is great. But the one time I do a review they’re sold out of curry beef brisket! That’s their best dish and most consistent, with a generous portion. I recommended this to so many Chinese friends and they all love it. Note it is Chinese style curry, so it’s savoury with body but not too thick, it’s delicious. Brisket is tender and flavourful, the rice is perfectly cooked and plentiful (combo and full size). This time we got sweet and sour pork, which was fresh and the pan fried beef noodle, which was just okay for the price but it was filling. Their Shanghainese fried noodle used to be made with real yellow Shanghai noodle and was REALLY good, but this location only has udon fried noodle now which is so disappointing. Cleanliness is just alright but by HK Cafe standard it is good. Cash and debit payments, I think they take credit now but it costs extra. Go pay upfront by the way. As a Chinese person who speaks the dialect and was raised overseas, I think their service really, really sucks and they might ignore you and be rude, but it doesn’t seem discriminatory because they treat me, a Chinese person who speaks the language, the same way. Except they seem more respectful towards seniors, which is nice. They have a new special daily combo deal that I will...

Servers there are all very friendly. It feels like those in an old neighbourhood in Hong Kong. Some of them may have rather limited English speaking skills, but they are all lovely people. 🥰
My go-to is Tripe and Tendon Noodle Soup. You can choose Rice Flat Noodle instead of Egg Noodle. Don’t forget to ask for their home made chilli oil. They put them into a tiny plastic container. It is so good that I always bring the rest home! 😋
If you order combo, you can choose one drink from then menu or daily soup. Their daily soup is Chicken Feet with Peanut. It is super yummy! 🤤 It scares those who find chicken feet gross. But think about sustainability - their most famous dish is Hainan Chicken Feet, I cannot think of a better use of the chicken feet!
We often order French Toast, Pork Chop Bun for afternoon tea snacks. Club sandwiches is another great option.
A noodle dish that I haven’t seen elsewhere is a hidden gem. Fuzhou Rice Vermicelli. It is even better than Stir Fried Rice Flat Noodle with Beef! Can you imagine it?
Today we tried some new - HK Style Baked Spaghetti 🍝 It was just like what you could have in HK.
Their Beef Brisket Curry is also very tasty. They have a special version which they slightly deep fried the beef brisket first - everything just tastes even better after dee frying! 😝
Oh did I mention they have delicious...
