Summary: hidden gem - amazing food, take out only, service is Asian standard. Note that this bakery only does take away and there is no seating indoors; however, there are public plazas (with outdoor seating and picnic tables) within the next block. Street parking in the area is usually easy - try side streets rather than directly on Cambie if parallel parking isn’t your thing. Their steamed BBQ pork buns are the best I’ve ever had - the meat quality is far superior to most others. Have tried a number of buns from there - baked and steamed - both are great but their steamed ones are the ones we return for. The couple who runs the place reminds me of my grandparents - they warm up to you when you go in regularly.

A local hidden gem, apparently this is the original bakery of the one my mother used to go to in Chinatown. The cocktail buns are a good value, but the steamed and baked pork buns were a little pricey at ~$4 each. They are bigger than other bakeries though and a very strong savoury taste. The spicy Szechuan style pork buns are a specialty there and a nice change up from the standard pork bun. I do miss those apple tartlets from the Chinatown bakery though. The ones here are close, but not the same. A nice bonus is free parking in the back, although you still have to walk around the buildings to get to the front door.

The BBQ pork buns are absolutely fantastic and everyone is incredibly friendly. Have been coming here for years. Surprisingly, this is a great spot to get balls of pizza dough from as well.

I have been going to this bakery for decades for their siao pao (steamed buns with BBQ pork). They are the Filipino/Chinese style that I grew up with and are perfect for a big snack. I also buy my frozen pizza dough from them that I can thaw and raise to hand press to make home made pizzas that my family love. I buy the whole wheat dough, but they also offer traditional and multi-grain dough, as well. I raised my kids (now in their late teens) on the bakery's siao pao and they always crave it.

I was so concerned that Original New Town Bakery on Cambie St. at W.19th Ave. had succumbed to the COVID-19 downturn, as they shuttered for almost 10 months, but I am happy to say that the are back open again making their signature offerings with the care and consistency that I have...

BEST BBQ PORK BUNS around and Excellent VALUE. I've tried almost all the steamed buns at all the Phil-Chi bakeries around and these guys win the trophy in that category. Super flavorful, fall apart chewy tender lean pork inside. SzeChuan (Spicy) Beef Buns are also excellent. They've kept their prices old school too. $4 for fresh, hand-made, meat filled buns is a great deal, and I'm a frugal guy. It's like pre-covid pricing - for anything in store imo. Plus, really kind owners who can speak like 4 different languages: tagalog, english, mandarin, canto. I like to learn a little Canto while I'm there and leave a little tip to...
