I'm not really one to ever complain much about service, I have always tried to be as understanding as possible. But yesterday me and my partner went to Siegel's and picked up about a dozen bagels and cream cheese, as well as a smoked meat bagel sandwich.
Now to start off, we went to the day old sections while there was a sign listed "$12.95 per dozen" for day olds, we proceeded to ask the cashier how much for the half dozen bags. He told us "$6.95 for half dozen", so we grabbed it.
We also ordered a container of "Garlic Cream Cheese" which he added to the bill and went to grab. We asked if we could switch to "plain cream cheese", which he said no problem. We waited for him to update our order on the screen before we paid, but he proceeded to ensure us "no no, there's no price difference, they're all the same price". So we proceeded to pay.
As we were waiting for the bagel sandwich, we noticed the receipt read "$7.95 for half dozen day olds". Now when we approached and asked him "Hey you mentioned the day olds were $6.95 per half dozen, but the receipt says $7.95". He then said "that's just the tax". We then proceeded to show him that it was the pre tax total and that tax was calculated on the bottom. He then admitted he had just assumed it was $6.95 because that was half of $12.95. I added this wasn't right. We were now paying $19.90 for 1/2 dozen fresh and 1/2 dozen old bagels instead of $18.95 for 1 dozen of fresh bagels. He asked for a bit of leniency saying " it's only a dollar man". I can usually be very understanding, but I mentioned "it's more about the principle of it". So he agreed and gave us a free bagel of our choice.
Fast forward to today, we were looking through our receipts and noticed that it specifically read "Flavored Cream Cheese - $7.95", which got me thinking, plain cream cheese is not flavoured, so shouldn't it be different? Turns out our suspicion was right. We checked their online menu and the plain cream cheese is $6.95.
We were quite upset to find out we were told incorrect prices twice by the same cashier. It might only be a dollar or two dollars, but the whole experience pissed off a loyal customer. Please learn the prices of your menu. If not, at least learn to take the time to check the prices at the register. Please don't brush of your customers. This incident has seriously lost the trust of...
Read moreI looked up best bagels places in Vancouver because I was really craving some, so went here last week. Seeing they were open 24 hours, had good reviews, had a wide selection etc etc is what brought me in. Focusing on just the food - gotta say for all the hype I don't see what the attraction is. I have had better while in Vancouver and being honest I hate to say it but they were from Save-on-foods supermarket. While the ones from here are fresh and smell great (I do love sesame seed ones) the end product is sadly disappointing. For the price you pay the bagels ($17 for a dozen) they are small, and while the cinnamon and raisin smell great, once toasted the taste is bland. There is the ever so slightest taste of cinnamon that is easily covered with the taste of butter or cream cheese. The beloved sesame ones are nice and kept their taste but didnt give that craving a kick like I hoped. Comparison wise Costco has a dozen for $8 (yes you do have ro have the membership and they are not open 24 hours) and Save-on-foods ones run you about $10 or $11 for a dozen. The previous 2 lots are also thicker and bigger. For the $17 price it is sadly not worth it. They are a 5 minute drive away from me, but I don't think I will be back. I was hoping to find a new bagel place to call my regular, make bi weekly visits and collect fresh ones for lunch and brunch, but the craving still exists and will need to see if their other venue on Granville is any better - after the 6 remaining ones are defrosted and eaten.
To clarify the rating: 1 star for the selection and handmade 1 star for 24 hours opening 1 star as the sesame seed...
Read moreTonight we ordered 3 bagels: Plain with Plain Cream Cheese, a Reuben on Plain and a Vegetarian on Whole Wheat. Where my disappointment begins is with the Reuben; as seen in the photos posted, the Reuben was not what I expected as it was made on the tiniest bagel, with very minimal meat and toppings. For $13, this Reuben had zero quality and substance to it from what I would expect a Reuben to taste and look like. To add to the disappointment, all three bagels ordered were dry and hard as rock, to where biting into the bagel made the sandwich as a whole unenjoyable to eat. We ordered late, at about 12am, and were the only customers at the time we ordered and it took about 30 minutes to receive our bagels that did not look or taste like they were made with care. I would think that the quality of the food would be consistent throughout the 24 hours that the store is open and I would assume that even at 12am I would have still gotten a nice sandwich on a fresh tasting bagel. The only positive about this whole order was that the veggies on the Vegetarian were fresh, but because the bagel was dry and hard, the very few veggies were taken off the bagel and eaten on its own. I've ordered from Siegel's in the past and was never disappointed until tonight, so hoping that this is just a one-off, but tonight I sadly wasted $34...
