Ordered the Bubba platter. Where to start?
The pork butt (pulled pork) was bland and achieved the feat of being simultaneously dry and watery, thanks to the watery sauce that it laid in. One may wonder if they didn't keep it on the back burner and poured water on it before serving it.
The ribs were the pinnacle of ridicule. Got 3 ribs. Yep. With barely any meat in-between the ribs. Guess the poor Fraser Valley swine are famished. The meat was not very flavorful at all either.
The fried chicken was fine. The only redeeming part of the platter. It can be ordered separately for $8 ($9 if delivered). It has a nice breading and the spice rub is good too so there's that.
The sides were bad. The Vegan Mac&Cheese had some Jalapeno sauce which was not creamy and quite unpalatable. I think an eight year old kid would cook a better batch with just your typical Kraft preparation. The cornbread with maple syrup was also quite disastrous. Out of 4 pieces, 3 were not heaved and flat. Eating these felt more like choking down some stale bread sweetened with syrup, which mind you, is an underwhelming experience.
The barbecue sauce is runny and tasteless. I should have started with that. If you're a barbecue restaurant and you can't get your barbecue sauce right, then you should reconsider your line of work.
The $80 platter was advertised to feed 2-3. This is dishonest. There's absolutely no way it feeds 3 normal adults and 2 is already a stretch. Value wise, it was a disgrace.
The whole meal was not even on par with a famous bbq restaurant chain of Vancouver which shall remain unnamed - and this is a pretty low bar.
TL;DR: If you're craving for some bbq food, and think you can curb your enthusiasm enough after reading this review, please do yourself a favor and exercise restraint. Find an alternative lest you end up disappointed. You have...
Read moreCame here with 4 friends, we ordered the 4x4. We enjoyed the food overall. We expected a bit more meat for the price point but ended up being very full and satisfied. There was enough meat for each of us to have some.
We doubled up on the sides so we only got three kinds, you only get 2 pieces of corn bread per side which was delicious but we wanted more. The tator tots were light and fluffy. The double portion was good too. The spicy mac and cheese was good although not my favourite, in hindsight I wish we tried one other thing or added the tortillas for the pulled meats.
I think it would be better if less sides were offered and portioned for 4 people instead of having to double up or some items as a default. Having a choice was nice but considering all the delicious side options it was hard to choose and there might be some optimal options.
I know there are different styles of BBQ but I felt the meats were a bit dry and could use some extra sauce at times. The fried chicken was well seasoned but was one of those items. I know this is partly because of the sides we chose, if we had coleslaw or other items my opinion might have been different.
Our server did stop by to ask if we needed anything and we didn't ask for sauce so that is partially on us but it could have just been included too.
Service was good and we had no issues. The long island pitcher we ordered was on point and refreshing on a hot night. It came quickly too.
Although I think there are a few things that could be improved I did enjoy the food. I'll be back again for the corn bread and drinks. I'll be interested to try their...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. Used to go to Dixies all the time on Hastings and it was always phenomenal, this place is not even close. The pulled pork was the driest I have ever had in my life I was close to calling them to complain - it was that bad. I agree with what another reviewer said about the liquid smoke - I am a former chef and I've tried/used liquid smoke a lot, this tasted suspiciously like that to me, especially in the pulled pork and the baked beans. The formerly delicious Dixies Serrano Cheese Spinach is no more - this stuff tasted like raw garlic and frozen spinach mixed together, it was absolutely terrible and nothing like the stuff Dixies had! Brisket didn't taste as good either, and as others have said it was sliced way too thin. Not sure why its sliced so thin I don't even see a brisket sandwich offered on their menu. The only decent items were the ribs and the cornbread, but again not as good as Dixies. Prices were similar to Dixies pricing which is quite high, but for the quality product DIxies served I actually didn't mind paying! I will not pay those prices for this poorly made "BBQ". I normally don't post reviews on restaurants but I felt obligated in this situation because we need a good BBQ joint in this city, and in my opinion Dixies was the only good one we have ever had! Maybe if the owners of this establishment see these reviews they will FIX THE ISSUES! I want to like this place but as it stands now I will...
