I really really want to like this cafe as I am a fan of the location. I am a fan of the location of the outdoor seating. There's a lot of outdoor shades. Unfortunately, the cons far outweight pros.
Pros Lots of shade at their outdoor seating especially when you come in the afternoon Friendly workers
Cons The iced Americano that I paid $5 for was very watered down. The flavor was bland. The ice had already melted when it was handed to me. It was not worth a premium price. Sadly to say, The McDonald's Iced coffee tasted way better and at an unbeatable value. The outdoor chairs are really uncomfortable. They have no cushioning for your bottom nor any cushioning for your back. There's no way you can sit down comfortably for an hour to enjoy your drink. Not that I wanted to anyway cause the Iced Americano was so watery.
I like the workers. I like the location of the outdoor seating but the iced americano was not good and it's the only iced coffee beverage I drink so it's unlikely that I...
Read moreCozy and intimate cafe in a residential area. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't very busy mid-afternoon on a weekday (save for a pair that left shortly after I arrived, I had the place to myself), so it was nice and calm. It was kind of chilly inside because they had the door propped open despite it being cold out, but I can imagine it might have been stuffy for the staff in the kitchen area. The barista was very nice! I got the Sooyo croissant, an egg tart, and a milk tea. I loved the Sooyo croissant - I'm weak to the brie/fig combo and this had just the right balance of all the ingredients on a warm and soft croissant. The egg tart was also really nice with a hint of cinnamon. It was bite-sized which was good for a small treat. I also loved the milk tea. It was very strong, and the brown sugar syrup enhanced the flavour! It was worth the trip for me for a...
Read moreFirst time visiting Sooyo Cafe, and I’m so glad I stumbled upon this hidden gem! I always love exploring small independent cafes, and this one truly stands out. From the hand-drawn brand name on the top of the shop, which gives it a unique and artsy vibe, to the cozy, well-decorated interior, it’s warm and inviting.
We tried the iced Americano, latte, ham and cheese croissant, and their signature Sooyo croissant—everything was delicious! The croissants were perfectly baked and absolutely yum. I also learned that “Sooyo” in Taiwan means something great happening, while in Korean, it means “demand.” Such a creative name with a meaningful touch!
The cafe is run by a young man and two ladies, and I love supporting small local businesses, especially ones run by passionate young people in Vancouver. Can’t wait to visit again and try more...
