Have you seen Back To The Future? Walking into this place was like going back in time, and I'm not just referring to the charming decor, but also the genuine service and the great menu. Ok here it goes....these days I find that when I eat out I can't escape the reality of 2023 dine out. Which is what?.....well....paying more for less and having a robot serve it.....half the time luke warm. This place reminded me of a time before capitalism took over, before the internet where you had to actually...yeah....make eye contact and smile at another human being, before paranoia was an underlying theme. Ok.. getting a little sidetracked. The menu was awesome. They have plenty of everything. My go-to breakfast are Benny's and they have a colourful selection of those. Every single item was fresh, beautifully put together with care and attention and the potatoes were baked nicely paired with a generous cup of fruit (see pic.) The coffee was good...actually quite good considering it was just a house roast and it was served in a sparkling clean cup. The entire restaurant was super clean...which I loved. You know...no little drips on the rim where the server explains....Oh it must've dripped from the pot, or little dusty corners on the booth seats, and water marks on the tables from whatever semi-wet wiping rags were used from the previous guests. Nope. This place was immaculate. The Service. Exceptional. Not only were they friendly...they were genuine. Yes there's a difference. Some places they are friendly but not genuine....you know...the forced smiles. Then there is genuine friendly where you can feel the appreciation, the gratitude and a vibe that could only mean...they wanna be there. They like what they do and are happy to have you there. Energy and vibe...goes a long way...in either direction. Not for a second did we have to ask for anything. It was provided before we even knew we wanted it. SUNSHINE DINER...may your rays keep this beautiful chilly city warm for many years to come.

This was possibly the most confusing dining experience I've had in recent memory. It's not that any aspects was "bad" really; it was just... confli ting with itself. At first glance, it appears to be a classic 50's style diner hidden away in plain sight. However, when I was seated (at 5:30 on a thursday), the place was completely empty, yet all the tables were prepped for a "fine dining" experience. An XFM smooth jazz station played over the speakers, while Elvis' face was everywhere you looked. It seemed apparent that the owner loved the 50's theme... but had to find some way to justify the steakhouse prices on the menu. The service was quite decent, but that could have been because I was the only patron there at the time. And of course there was the food. I got their standard burger and an "adult" milkshake. For those two things, somehow, my bill passed the $40 mark. The milkshake (B52) claimed to include Bailey's, Kaluha, and espresso (for $15 +tax): the server either made some mistakes with the proportions of espresso to alcohol, or outright 86'd it as it just tasted like a coffee milkshake. The fries, which I was expecting to be rustic and thick-cut, were closer to pomme frites that covered 3/4 of the plate. In the remaining space stood the burger, which was closer to a slider than an actual burger. It was cooked well, seasoned well, just rather miniscule for a min. $20 price tag. It did include a small salad (and I mean SMALL) that was clearly made with a box of baby greens, a few cherry tomatoes, and Kraft balsamic vinegrette. The worse part about dining there... after paying $40 for just myself... I'm still hungry! If this place figured out what it wants to be, cut the prices to a reasonable amount, and perhaps moved to a more rural area or at least where rent isn't so expensive, this place would be pretty good. But, as it is rn, steer clear and safe your $.

I love anything retro. Appliances, food, fashion, you name it. I wanted to find a retro diner that was very dog friendly. When a friend had mentioned this one, I was excited and eager to go. Parking up front was easy. There's some free parking on the side streets. Our service was incredible btw, from start to finish. If you’re a dog owner and want a very dog friendly patio, this is a great location. There's plenty of shade on the left side of the patio, and your furry friend can dine next to you or under your table. Nobody seemed bothered and our doggie was brought fresh cold refills. The food is a great balance. We didn't feel like greased out monkeys struggling to get out of our chairs. The Bennys you can modify by choosing a different half. For example, you can have a ham one, and a mushroom one, separately one plate. I love it because of the variety. I would definitely come back. My dog loved the shade on the patio. Maybe one day Vancouver would be more dog friendly like Seattle.

I have been there many times, partly because it is relatively close to where I live. I debated between a one star or a two star, but one star probably fits this place the best.

The food is not the worst, but it is overrated. The best bennies in Vancouver? I think not. The quality is not horrible but more than ten, fifteen dollars for a two bennies, no thank you. The food tastes overall oily and heavy on calories. The french fries especially, you can taste the oil from time to time. I sometimes get home fries served cold and hard. I am disappointed that my friend told me that you can not substitute homefries for french fries on the menu because they are more expensive. Either way, do not have too much expectations for the best bennies in Vancouver, you might be really disappointed for the amount of food and the quality that you get.

The service is not horrible, but it is not great. Especially on the weekends, the servers can barely manage their heavy job. The entire place is a mess if you go on weekends. The wait is horribly long, 30- 45 minutes at least. Even if you sit down, the server never comes for your order. You wait forever for a spot and you will expect another hour or so for your food and everything to be ready. The entire place gets even more hectic as big families have their family gatherings. I would not recommend this place if you are eating with friends, too much noisy and too much wait time. In addition, you can sometimes hear the cooks screaming in the kitchen if you are sitting close to it. My experience with the servers has never been great. If you are curious, check it out for yourself. You will be equally disappointed.

And may I say that they closed the credit card service. It is a great inconvenience to me who basically live on my credit card. I had to ask my friend to pay for me because of it. What a great inconvenience to the people who only use credit cards! The place is retro and their paying methods are even more old fashion.

I suppose if you would like a bubbly experience back to the 50s, you might as well go there extremely early in the morning. I believe they are truly overrated because of their 50s interior design. The food nevertheless will let you down. The staffs, hectically attempt to please you, and the prices of the food, are just not worth it. Please when choosing a breakfast place, do not waste your...
