Updated Review: After our initial experience, we came back several times. From there, we booked a standing reservation for a specific table at a specific time each week for eight weeks. We spoke specifically to a manager about the details and confirmed we’d like to come in every Friday at 6pm at table (blank), to which he confirmed multiple times. A day prior to our first reservation, I called directly to confirm our specific table and time, which was also confirmed. The day of, I received a call to confirm our reservation. I confirmed again with our specific details. On the night of, we showed up and as the hostess was taking us to our table, it was already taken. The manager on-site apologized very casually and didn’t seem to care much about the fact we confirmed multiple times that we wanted the table and had booked it for eight weeks. He offered us less desirable tables and subsequently we “chose” to sit at the “best” of what was offered, which was much less than the specific table we requested. We had clients/friends join us that we were trying to impress. It was their first time. We ordered multiple cocktails, wine, appetizers, mains, and desserts. The table was too small and in a high-traffic area, which is exactly why we requested the specific table we had, which was confirmed multiple times by the host and manager. We eventually moved over to the table we wanted in the first place at the tail-end of our dinner. Too late unfortunately. The food this time was decent, but definitely not as great as it had been for weeks. Our bill was over $500 and change plus a decent tip. As a small gesture, they took care of a $28 appetizer. Highly disappointed. This is still a good restaurant and we will return casually, but I can tell you we’ll be cancelling our standard 8 week reservation. Spending $500-$1000 a week for two months seems like a stretch when confirmed details are passed over and the response to fix the situation isn’t reverent, concerning, or frankly prompt. To be very clear, we specifically made a standing reservation for eight weeks to sit at a specific table and to spend top dollar. If this wasn’t possible, it shouldn’t have been confirmed by multiple people. If we knew it wasn’t possible, we wouldn’t be booking. We’ve made many standing reservations with the exact same details elsewhere that have been honoured without issue.
Original Review: A great spot. Stumbled in here by accident on my way to another establishment. The environment was excellent, the decor was vibrant and beautiful, the ambience was delectable, the beverages were shaken to perfection, and the food was scrumptious. Highly recommended, especially if you’re looking for premium...
Read moreI was quite excited to go to Tutto with my partner and her family. We went on a Thursday night to celebrate a university graduation. The dining room of the restaurant is quite nice, reminding me of an NYC style upscale Italian restaurant. The service was good, and what I would expect from a restaurant like this, they brought my partner a congratulation dessert at the end of the evening which was appreciated. Apart from that I wouldn’t say anything exceptional. One thing I did notice was the state of the washrooms, they were very poor and looked as though at one point they were well maintained, but just let go by lack of cleaning and maintenance.
The food: I will say that I have high standards for food, as an ex European Michelin level chef, however this standard is dictated by price. For the high range price tag of this restaurant, I was very disappointed with the quality of food served. I ordered “The Feature, Mixed Grill” which is highlighted on the menu and includes what seems like a taste of a few items on the menu, including Veal Piccata, Seabass, and Prawns ~ 50. Now when ordering something like Veal or Seabass in a fine dining Italian Restaurant, I would expect perfection. I received far from. Dry Seabass, unseasoned Veal, overcooked prawns and a sad excuse of a sauce which was split, greasy, and lacked seasoning and flavour. It being a special occasion I didn’t want to make a fuss, although ending up sending the veal back for lack of seasoning. The plate returned, seasoned, and the sauce was gone. Not a new dish mind you, just reheated and seasoned the food. On top of all this, the portion size was tiny. I ended up eating my partners pizza crusts as I was still hungry. Food lacked finesse or much creativity. If this is now the mark of fine dining in Vancouver, I’m really glad I no longer cook. Embarrassing
Ordered a grappa and espresso for dessert, wasn’t even offered a desert menu, had to ask. Partners father ordered ice cream, I ordered grappa. Grappa didn’t arrive until after everyone’s desert was finished, and after I reminded the server. Felt rushed to enjoy it, and therefore didn’t. Cost of the meal was around $350 for four people with no appetizers other than some focaccia, and one bottle of inexpensive wine. For an unseasoned, overcooked meal, and to still leave hungry, I would say quite poor value, and I wouldn’t return. Seems as though this restaurant has invested a lot in its dining area, and not much in ensuring its offerings are up to par with the prices charged. I think we all know why the Michelin guide missed you guys. Hey, there’s always next...
Read moreI have my Favourite Italian in Vancouver, but regretfully tried something new.
Keep in mind: Their website menu, Google Menu and Yelp Menu all differ. Speaking of Menu....they don't serve Ravioli, Arancini or Lamb. Those items not on an Italian menu is like a Mexican Restaurant not serving Tacos...moving on....
Dinner Time. Walking through the dining room to be sat, it felt and looked like the power was out. The only light was coming from the kitchen in the back. That's how dark it was. Nope, not mood lighting. Not romantic....just came across as....Oops we lost electricity...lets set up candles. I had to turn on my phone camera to look at their 7 page wine list. Fun.
Keep in mind, I'm not 50 yet and the noise level in the dining area had us forced to be reseated in the lounge. That's how extremely loud it was. I couldn't hear my company sitting across from me, or hear myself think. I asked the manager and she explained that it echoes in this space. Well....maybe then it might be a good idea not to pack the place like sardines. You know...it being especially supposedly Fine Dining.
So now, I couldn't see or hear....and we haven't even ordered yet. Not a good start. The Food....
Caesar Salad. The romaine was old and the dressing had no taste. Their Caesar made the pre-packaged generic Caesar salad kits at your local grocery store taste amazing. Had to turn it down.
Calamari - ok. Bolognese - I make them better at home.
Lobster Spaghetti. The flavour profile was good but you're getting at most $15 worth of Lobster for a $44 Lobster dish. It was mostly pasta with sauce. Shortchanging. Another stench that doesn't go well with Fine Dining. Why so stingy? Give the people what they paid for.
Tiramisu - I'm not certain if it was, but it tasted frozen not made fresh.
Our Server was friendly and the chap did the best he could. I mean really not much else to say.... Honestly, if you ask me....I think you can do better.
Slightly left an odour of disappointment following us up...
