Travelling an hour via subway for a double date with friends I hadn’t seen in a long time, I was looking forward to reconnecting, especially since it was the first time seeing my friend since my wife and I got married a few weeks ago.
We had our newly adopted puppy with us and understood that uptown patios are typically less lenient than those in downtown Toronto. We had called ahead to confirm if the patio was open, as our previous RSVP fell through due to a different patio setup. Jack Astor’s Vaughan graciously opened their freshly rained-on patio for us to dine with our puppy. We wiped down a chair for him to keep him clean, as the floor was soaked.
Our server, Sal, provided an exceptional customer experience, recommending items in the menu and suggesting a great alternative when something I wanted wasn’t available. I liked his recommendation so much that I’ll be trying it at home too!!! Thanks, Sal!
After we ordered drinks and appetizers, a lady in blue with an earpiece came out and asked us to take the puppy off the chair. Though I didn’t like it, we obliged as these are the restaurant's rules. Despite our initial disappointment, we appreciated the restaurant's efforts to accommodate us.
However, the situation escalated when the lady in blue made a comment that I found extremely petty and rude, saying, “Grinning and making a face won’t change anything.” This triggered an emotional reaction from me, one that I acknowledge I need to work on with my therapist. I responded quickly, questioning why the manager would speak to a customer like that, especially one who was LITERALLY about to spend generously at the restaurant. This left a very sour impression of the location/restaurant.
Despite already placing the puppy on the ground, I continued to express my frustration, questioning the manager's approach and the rationale behind her strict adherence to policy in an empty patio. Her response, indicating that this is how she treats people when they are rude, was disappointing.
We decided not to order any more after the appetizers.
Sal, our server, continued to shine through the ordeal, offering us tequila shots after we paid the bill and apologizing on behalf of his manager when he brought them. This compassionate and understanding attitude from Sal was a silver lining in an otherwise disappointing experience. The food, unfortunately, didn’t redeem the experience. The tacos were expensive and tasted odd, the poutine was subpar, and the lobster cheesy dip was mediocre. I couldn’t understand why the poutine had American cheddar instead of cheese curds??! I remember seeing Montreal in the description—no one from there would touch that poutine! If you’d even call it that...
In conclusion, my experience at Jack Astor’s Vaughan left much to be desired. While Sal provided excellent service, the behavior of the manager, Christina, was unacceptable. Reflecting on this, I recognize my own need to improve my reactions and responses. However, Jack Astor’s should reconsider the role and responsibilities of Christina at this company. For now, I won’t be returning.

Read more❌First off once we got in and sat at down at our table the server named Lia (she) 👧🏼 was nice at first, but when we were ready to order food she was going around the bar area and hugging the single guys waiting for their tips 💰 instead of reaching out to us to order our food as we waited a good 20-30 minutes just to order our food.
Then we finally had to call some other server to ask our server to order our food, Lia (she)👧🏼finally came to order the food. After that we all got our food like another 30 minutes later but noticed one of the order was wrong as she ordered something different and didn’t listen or look what we were pointing at which was Chicken Mac N Cheese but instead we got a Chicken Sandwich with Mac N Cheese on the side 🤦♂️.
After that she had to come over and reorder for us and one of us had to wait 20-30 minutes for their food because our server Lia (she) 👧🏼 got it wrong the first time. Not only she got our order wrong, but also she never checked up on us and asked “Does the food taste good or do you need any sauce or anything else?” and never refilled our water once or even asked us if we needed water/drinks.
At the end of it all we were all fed up with her service and customer service that we had to ask the hostess to get a takeout box, water which was never given and the Bill.
This restaurant goes by the rule of only one server for each table so we had to wait for our server Lia (she) 👧🏼 to get us a bill receipt to pay.
Never have I experienced this much disrespect and bad customer service from this Jack Astors (Vaughan) location!
👉I would give this location a -5 stars if there was an option to!
❌❌❌Never go to this location ever and especially do not be served by Lia (she) if you are not a single guy that looks rich and is ready to pay...
