Unacceptable behaviour of the owner with his employees. Below are the details of our experience.
I often resist writing negative reviews based on one off experiences however what me and my family observed today at this restaurant, I feel it’s worth mentioning.
We visited this place today (Aug 13, 2022) for Halwa puri breakfast. The lady employee at the reception was very welcoming and nice. She took our order and everything was ok. In addition to us, there were other customers as well. The employee was checking on other orders at reception when the owner shows up from the kitchen and starts yelling at the employee in an extremely rude manner asking her to clean up the tables first (as some customers just left the restaurant moments ago) instead of spending her time on what she was doing. We found the owners choice of words (lot of slang) and raised tone to be extremely rude and insulting as all customers in store could hear it. We could notice how embarrassed the lady employee felt. I am sure there are much better and respectful ways to communicate this or handle this.
I was with my kids (7 and 13) and both my kids immediately asked us why the owner was behaving so rude with the employee. Once we were done with our breakfast me and my wife decided to stand up for the employee and share our feedback with the owner.
We called the owner, mentioned that we come here often and that his breakfast was good. We shared that as customers we didn’t find it right the way he insulted the employee in front of customers. The owners response was shocking. Not only that he defended his act, his exact words were (translated into English) “unless you don’t insult such desi people, they don’t do their work”. He further went on mentioning that his family works in the kitchen and he often insults them so that they do their work. He absolutely found nothing wrong with what he did and wasn’t in agreement with our feedback. He shared some other incidences with my wife using lot of Punjabi slang words for the lady employee such as “ullu ki phatti”. (Google to know what this means)
I don’t know how the employee has been performing, the owner has the right to provide her with his feedback if he is not happy with her work or let her go however we don’t believe anyone has the right to insult any one so openly using the insulting and slang words he used.
Me and my family often go to this restaurant for Halwa Puri breakfast. This place is the only Halwa Puri option we know in Vaughan and Richmond Hill area. In the past we had referred this place to many of our friends however knowing the kind of views the owner has, we will be hesitant in going to this place anymore or recommend this further. The owner mentioned it was normal to do what he did in the country he came from however I don’t think it’s an acceptable behaviour in our diverse Canadian society and we need to set better examples of behaviour for our children. We felt it was important for me and my wife to teach our kids that there is nothing wrong in standing up if we see something wrong happening around us hence we raised this with the owner and wrote a negative feedback.

Read moreRecently, I had an extremely unpleasant experience at this place, to the extent that I've made the firm decision never to return, despite enjoying their breakfast in the past. My criticisms primarily revolve around the behavior of the man who greets customers at the front, whom I've previously excused due to my appreciation for the food. However, it's become apparent that he is inherently rude and insincere in his customer service approach. Witnessing his treatment of the women in the kitchen, who I presume are from his family, was deeply troubling.
During my most recent visit, his young daughter, who is notably kind and gentle, was present during Eid celebrations. When a minor order mix-up occurred, he reacted with excessive anger, bordering on physical violence, in full view of everyone present. The hurtful words he directed at her were utterly inappropriate for a father. It's astonishing that he lacks any sense of shame or decency, especially considering his position as a representative of the local Pakistani community. This behavior is unacceptable, and I sincerely hope he reads this review and endeavors to amend his conduct, as I'm certain many others have observed his behavior. To the hardworking women in the kitchen and his daughters, I extend my heartfelt apologies. You...
Read moreI visited with my family this morning for a desi chana poori breakfast. We ordered the chana pooris with halwa and doodh patti. Surprisingly, the taste of every item on the plate, including the tea was just way off. They have food items look ok , but they taste nothing like they should.
The chanas tasted hints of paya and burnt oil. It was really bad. The pooris were ok. The alu tarkari (potatoes) tasted nothing like alu tarkari. The halwa tasted nothing like halwa. The doodh patti just tasted like water and milk with hints of tea. Its like the chef in the kitchen didnt know what ingredients to use at all and didnt care.
There were other guests complaining about the food as well. We did mention speak with the lady behind the counter and she said, thats how its always tasted. She did mention that alu should taste a bit like paya maybe because they might have use the same utensils while cooking. I suspect they re-use their cooking oil multiple times and thats how the paya flavor got into the chanas and the alu.
I wont be going back there again.
The lady behind the counter was nice , humble and had alot of patience. Kudos to her. 2 stars for just the service. Food...
