We came to The Kal after an intense day of traveling for over 7 hours, me and my beloved partner had not eaten anything all day apart from a bag of lays chips each, so it’s safe to say we were starving. We decided to come to The Kal because of all the amazing reviews, and we started by waiting at the door to be seated but assumed it was a seat yourself place from the fact we were stood there for awhile so we seated ourselves. Then proceeded to wait 20 mins to be seen to, in which the menus were near thrown at us by our server. Before we could get a word in our waitress asked for our IDs which is fair enough so we gave both our IDs, we said we are just going to get two cokes and she snapped back saying you need ID to be in here, we were taken aback slightly by the rudeness but we didn’t want to let it ruin our evening. Once the drinks were brought we waited another 20 mins before the waitress finally came to take our order. We ordered 2 mini pizzas with just cheese and asked for these to come out first, my partner ordered the fried chicken and rib dinner with the side of macaroni and coleslaw (it comes with them), and I ordered 3 tacos and asked specifically not to get the haddock taco. As I was mid way through asking for my tacos she turned away and began to walk off having said nothing else. However she forgot to take our menus so she had to turn around halfway to the door, so I told her I was not finished ordering and continued. We waited 30 mins for the food and once it arrived the mains came out but no mini pizzas (we asked for them to come first), we didn’t get a chance to let our server know as she hastily dropped our plates in front of us and left. This meant we had to wait to catch another servers eye while our food went cold for another few minutes. When we eventually got a hold of someone (not our server as she was nowhere to be seen) they went and got the pizzas for us. Once I looked at my tacos I realized one of them was the haddock which I specifically asked not to have. So I had to get a hold of a server again (still not our waitress) and I let them know it was incorrect and politely asked for the chicken one instead. She was very understanding and took away my plate, so in the mean time I ate one of the mini pizzas which were rather delicious and good value for money. However I finished the pizza and waited an extra 15-20mins for my tacos to come back out with the correct ones. Once they came back out, the 2 previous tacos that were correct were cold!! I didn’t want to send them back again as it had been a long day and I didn’t want to wait any longer. They tasted ok, I think they would have been really good if they were warm however. Once we were halfway through eating we realized non of my partners sides had come out. He was getting a to-go box for the rest of his meal so he was just going to ask for the sides to-go when he was getting the bill. Me and my partner are both servers so we understand what’s it’s like to sometimes get flustered with having a large amount of tables. But it wasn’t busy at all!! Then once I finished my food and my partner waited for a to-go box and the bill we waited another 15-20mins before we could get anyone’s attention!! Finally we got someone (again not our server) and asked for the sides in a to-go box and the bill, which all came very quickly. We payed and tipped, however when we got in the car I opened the macaroni to have a look at it and there was a massive hair buried in it 🤢. This place looks great for big sports events etc, but the service was appalling. Me and my partner are not the kind of people to write reviews but this really upset me. We have been on the road for over a week camping in the back-country, and we thought about treating ourselves to a proper meal instead of camping food for once. We were really disappointed and had high hopes. I’m sorry but we won’t...
Read moreLast night myself, my partner, and my mom visited the Kal at 7pm and had a terrible time.
Upon entering, we were told to sit wherever which we did, we sat in our booth - then for 15 minutes without being served even water. As we were frustrated, we all got up to leave and were abruptly stopped at the door by a server who told us that he would be right with us. Frustrated but hungry we sat down again. We waited another 5 minutes, while we observed this server chat with coworkers, and even sat down with another table while we waited.
My mom ordered one corona, and this took another 10 minutes to be brought to our table - while the server continued to chat with coworkers and this one specific patron.
Once we ordered food, 15 minutes later, the server came back and asked to confirm our order (at this point we’ve been in the Kal for 45 minutes and our food hasn’t been rung in).
10 minutes later (quick ticket time on the food, yay kitchen), another worker brought out my mom’s and my two tacos. Two minutes later, our server walked by and insisted that my partner’s pizza would be on the way. 20 minutes later, and after trying to wait to not finish our food, we addressed the issue that the pizza had not arrived. Our server then went to check where it was, and came back to insist that “the Pineapple has been forgotten”, when my partner had ordered the Kal which does not include pineapple (just a pepperoni pizza).
At this point, we were honestly quite upset, and it was obvious so the server said that he would pay “out of his pocket“. This honestly made sense that we would not have to pay for this meal because we had been there for over an hour and a half.
As we were leaving, the server ran up to us (being frank, seemed intoxicated) insisting that we not leave a bad review and that he would be paying “out of his pocket“ for our meal.
We sat with it for a bit, but just wanted to feel validated and that this experience was upsetting and my partner ended up having an A&W burger at 9:30 PM.
As new folks to Vernon, we had heard such lovely things about this place, but not sure we will be returning to ever try the highly recommended pizza (we had been given a recommendation from a manager at the dog park a few...
Read moreI have been coming to the Kal for over 20 years. Brought my friends from out of town for wings and a Caesar. Bar none the worst service I have ever received here and probably worst service I’ve had anywhere in the last five. As a server, I rarely write horrible reviews because I appreciate how hard it can be, but also as a server I feel obligated to let the management know how downhill you have let your establishment go. Our table ordered Caesars, we had to ask for menu’s, a little while later our waitress walks by our table grabs the menus that we had piled together on the edge of the table and starts to walk away, we had to say “can we order something?” She returns and takes our food order, my friend asks for a water. When our food comes, I ask if she could bring us water, she returns with one water and puts in front of the person who originally asked. The plastic glass was covered with lipstick and remnants from the last customer around the rim. Food comes, waitress only asks one person at the table if they wanted another Cesear and disregards everyone else with empty glasses. Not once did she come and ask if everything was ok during our entire time there. She did not smile,, wasn’t even close to being pleasant and her demeanour made us feel like we were an inconvenience. When she did decide to come around, we ordered a second round of Caesars, our second ones came with zero garnish, no bean, olive or pickle that the first ones had. I’m not sure how a bartender and waitress would have missed it, but thanks for the tomato juice and vodka. You used to have such great staff, everyone in there today looked miserable, and although it’s a bar, since when is it acceptable on management part to have be ok with every waitress in workout tights and t-shirts. I can see why, if you have no pride in your establishment the staff would present themselves the way they do. Tip reflected a 5 percent tip on a close to 100 dollar bill and I won’t be back...
