Bodega — Restaurant in Victoria

I recently had the pleasure of visiting La Bodega, a Spanish bar located in the heart of Victoria, and I must say it was an incredible experience. I enjoyed a delightful cheese board paired with a rich red wine, and the combination was simply perfect.

The ambiance of La Bodega is captivating, creating an authentic Spanish atmosphere that immediately transports you to a different world. The dim lighting and rustic decor added to the charm of the place, making it a perfect setting for a cozy evening in the heart of Victoria.

What truly stood out for me was the impeccable service. The staff at La Bodega were attentive, knowledgeable, and extremely friendly. They were more than willing to offer recommendations, ensuring that I got the best out of my visit.

The cheese board was a work of art, featuring a delectable selection of cheeses that catered to various tastes, and the red wine complemented the flavors beautifully. Every bite and sip felt like a journey through the Spanish culinary landscape.

Bodega is mine and my partners favourite spot to go and is often the one we highly recommend to others, however when we went to dinner the other night we felt neglected to say the least. On the plus side, the food and drinks were amazing.

I hate leaving a 2 star review because we love the place so much, but we felt that are server was inexperienced and not very personable. We both have been in the industry for at least a decade so we know what good service looks like. The host on the other hand was a highlight, she knew everything that was on the bodega board and quality checked us in efficient timing. As I watched our server move around the room she went to every other table consistently including the needy table table directly beside us, however rarely came to ours. We felt as though we needed to prompt her in service when we wanted more drinks and more food rather than paying attention to the empt plates and glasses on our table. At no point did she quality check our meals. When she did quality check it was on our dessert. After dessert we order a sherry and before we even finished our drink she asked if we wanted our bill rather than asking if there was anything else we needed.

Overall we left feeling very underwhelmed. Perhaps more training for new staff members would go along...

Our experience at this restaurant was very disappointing. We walked in and were added to the waitlist. The staff told us the wait would be around 45 minutes to an hour, which we were fine with. We spent some time walking around nearby and came back after about an hour, only to be told that the party at the table we were supposed to get was still there, and we’d need to wait even longer.

The staff then suggested we check out their sister restaurant next door while we waited. We specifically asked if they could hold our spot on the waitlist, and they said yes. So we went next door, ordered a few small dishes, and kept waiting—altogether for another hour.

When we finally returned to the original restaurant, the staff told us they saw us sitting at the other place and assumed we no longer wanted our table, so they canceled our spot—without even checking with us or giving any notice.

In total, we waited for over two hours and ended up with nothing. We didn’t get to eat what we originally came for, and felt completely ignored and disrespected. We hope the restaurant improves their waitlist management and communication with customers...
