Hot House Pizza — Restaurant in Victoria

In the evening of October 7th, my partner and I decided to go to Hot House as they specifically make a vegan pizza. The Whole Wheat Veggie Pizza is supposed to have artichokes, olives, spinach, red onion and daiya cheese. We called in our order and the guy didn’t even know what ingredients this pizza contained. I clarified that the order was vegan and had daiya cheese as he was unaware of what this pizza contained. The pizza was made quick, about 15 minutes, and we paid and took it home. When we opened the box we noticed that the cheese looked different, it was pale and stretchy whereas dairy free cheese typically crisps up. I was suspicious and when I called back to ask what type of cheese they used, they said mozzarella. We were in absolute shock. Unbelievable, seriously negligent on their part. We had to go back in, waste our evening while they had to recreate the pizza correctly with the dairy free cheese. There was no explanation, apology or remorse. The way they handled it was very unprofessional. After the pizzas were made we simply asked for our refund as we shouldn’t have to pay for such a massive error on their part. Not only did he refuse, but he didn’t offer an apology and just said the owner would be in touch without asking for our name or number. He then said that we could come back tomorrow when the owner is in and talk with him and maybe he could give us a credit...however we would not want to eat at Hot House again. I strongly recommend going to another restaurant for pizza especially if you have any dietary...

Final update: 09-12-2024: This is my favourite pizza shop in the city. The new employees are SO great! They are all kind and attentive and make fresh slices on the regular and the hours of operation are again accurate. Kudos to the owner for solving the issues from the past! Massive improvement! I’m back to being a regular customer!

Update 2: 05-24-2023: The employee in question works Wednesdays, I think, because the shop was closed by 7:30 pm!

Update: 04-06-2023: The owner really must not care about this place. The little guy is STILL not making fresh slices and had a piss poor attitude - I just walked out again and gave someone else my money! Fire the useless kid who’s tanking your business!

Original Post: Usually I love this place. The regular guys who work here are awesome and the pizza is great. However, recently there has been days when it’s two teenage dudes working. They close an hour earlier than they’re supposed to, never have fresh slices, don’t acknowledge people when they come into the store, and the little one argues with people (including me.) I have repeatedly left without making a purchase because of their attitude. These kids are ruining...

I have had hothouse once before, but my experience recently with this company was very disappointing. A week ago I ordered 2 pizzas from a location that was a 5 minute drive away for delivery. They gave their driver the wrong address, and after several phone calls, ended up delivering them over 2 hours after I ordered. By the time they arrived, both pizzas were cold and hard. Additionally, one had meat on it, not what I ordered since I’m vegetarian. I was really annoyed by this let-down, so I called back to inform them. The person on the phone didn’t seem apologetic or like he cared, but he ended up offering me a credit for 2 mediums for my trouble. Today I decided to use my credit, and when I called in it was the same employee. He said he remembered me, and that I could only have a credit for 1 medium??? I explained the situation and he refused to give me a credit for both. So I ordered the one, and when the delivery driver arrived he made me pay for the delivery. Ridiculous!
