Murchie’s is not good as it used to be, we are going to the downtown location from the last 3-4 years. But now it seems like the service has gone down and the Workers & Manager are totally irresponsible. I placed an order on 26th December for a cake to pickup on 28th December, on the first call they told me That I’ll receive a call next day for the confirmation and to pre-authorise a payment for my special order. I did received a call from them and did authorise the payment and the lady on the call gave me the confirmation to pickup the cake on 28th around 3pm. But when i went there to pickup the cake on theirs given time and date guess what ! There’s no cake and at first the staff is saying that the kitchen didn’t made your cake because they didn’t received any confirmation from my side, then i showed them my call records that i did received a call from you guys and i did gave the details of my card and the lady on the phone did gave me confirmation to pickup the cake by 3pm. And when i talked to the manager she’s was super rude and she’s said that we are super busy these days so forgot. Like seriously? If someone is placing and order for their special events and you guys are not making it or if you guys will not be able to make it on time, you’re supposed to inform the customer so that they can order from somewhere else. But no They don’t care if your event is getting f..kd up. And at last they were saying that we can make it ready by tomorrow if you want, which was so disrespectful.
Definitely they need a good supervisor or Manager to manage the young team to take care of customer orders properly. Never going back to this location. And will recommend EVERYONE PLEASE MAKE SURE WHEN YOU ARE PLACING ANY ORDER HERE FOR YOUR...
Read moreI had an extremely disappointing experience at Murchies today, Sunday August 14th at 10:30am. I came with a small group of friends who each ordered individually. 2 out of the 5 of us had our orders completely forgotten. After waiting over 20 minutes, we politely asked if someone could check on our food and drinks. At this point I also indicated that I was quite upset to several of the staff. We received empty apologies and shortly after, our rushly packed food. I spoke to a gentleman at the front of the house and asked what led to this situation, as I would like to write about my experience to management. He responded that he was the assistant manager and that due to short staffing (an employee was sent home early due to an injury) tickets just sometimes get lost. First of all, I do sympathize that working in hospitality is challenging, so I wanted to understand what had happened before jumping to conclusions. One missed order I understand, but two missed orders is wrong. I gave this gentleman an opportunity to speak to a customer that was clearly unhappy, yet his response was not genuine and came across as more of an excuse with an empty apology. He gave me a blank stare followed by silence. We both walked away with a bitter taste. I had a hard time eating my food and regret coming to this business. If your management team does not care to listen to your customers, they should not be working in hospitality. I am sad to say that after so many years of visiting Victoria as a tourist and looking forward to Murchies each time, I will not be returning. You had an opportunity to right a wrong, and chose...
Read moreLike a Tardis, Murchie's is much bigger on the inside, and takes you back in time.
One of the first things you'll notice, apart from there always being a line of eager customers, are the high ceilings. With their painted tin designs lit from the edge, they give the interior a huge sense of space. While it's often busy, there are dozens of tables between the front and rear areas, as well as a few outside when the weather's good - which it often is, in Victoria. I recommend the front window for people-watching in any weather, or the rear windows for some quieter reading or light working.
There's a solid selection of sandwiches, for both lunch and breakfast( get there early in the morning for those! )as well as all sorts of treats for dessert. Muffins and scones round out the edibles: always tasty!
Both coffee-lovers and tea-takers will find a wide variety of drinks to choose from, and there's literally tons of tea for sale in the other half of Murchie's - worth checking out any time of the year, especially for gifts.
The staff are attentive and work hard to keep the line moving, as well as bus the tables. Murchie's is an institution in Victoria and it's a rare day indeed that it's not busy; I've never seen it actually be slow. Groups of five or more might have trouble finding a table without waiting, but long stays aren't discouraged as long as you top up your drinks. Quieter conversation is a given; loud parties of people aren't the norm here, making it the perfect place to kick back and just get to...
