Fergies Fish 'n Chips — Restaurant in Winnipeg

Ordered a regular pickerel meal (2 piece with regular fries) and a double pickerel meal (2 pieces with LG fried and chowder). In comparison to the first few times I had been the portion sizes have been reduced. It's still a decent size but definitely not the wow factor compared to the portions from years ago. The first piece I ate was the pickerel but when I had a few bites of the second piece the taste was noticeably different and my partner said that it didn't look like pickerel, it looked like cod. I went to let them know that I got 1 piece of pickerel and 1 piece of cod and the girl I spoke to first looked like she had no idea what to do or say so another man was directed my way but seemed busy and said 'thats how pickerel flakes' and when I clarified that they did not taste the same he was very dismissive and didn't even spend two seconds to keep eye contact with me while saying sorry about that and just moving onto whatever he was doing. This is the 2nd time I have eaten at Fergies and I really love the taste of the Pickerel which is prepared fresh daily, and coated with a seasoned flour and beer batter. My only complaint is that they use Canola Oil; the website says that the oil has no “added trans fat” but it still has trans fats and is deep friend which isn't the healthiest for anyone. So with this said, the taste is really good, but I would only eat this fried fish once in a while as a treat if you want to stay healthy! I been going to both locations for years. They are equally great. One located at St Vital mall the other at the Forks food court. Fish and chips are consistently delicious, I have had both the cod and halibut at different times(pickerel available as well), always good. Not too much batter, served with a lemon slice and tarter sauce. Fries and fish are made fresh for you and everything is piping hot when you get it. Always busy, I have never been there when there has not been a line up but they are fast and efficient. You can choose the portion you are hungry for, snack size to 3 pieces.
