June 27, 2020 Pinky’s Bakery A Customer Review by Hassan Hawash
Pinky’s Bakery
‘I want a vanilla one. Can I have a chocolate cupcake? I want another vanilla. Could I have another chocolate cupcake” says one, chimes in another, requests another birthday party friend. Would you like a cupcake asked of the moms and dads? “Oh, okay I’ll have a red velvet.” Those requests, appeals and responses all led me to believe I had made the right choice for the dessert following the pizza. Birthday party coming up? Cake or cupcakes? Well, we are talking 9 year olds in my case. Cupcakes are just easier, wouldn’t you say? No need for cutting just the right sized slice. No looking at the waste of a half-eaten slice of cake.
Now, in my experience the size of the cupcake can be at issue, but not at Pinky’s. Nothing left behind on the plates! The texture of the cake of the cupcake can be a problem – too hard, (think shades of little red riding hood here. Oh, it’s too hard, oh it’s too soft, Ahh, just right!) but not at Pinky’s. Nice and fluffy. The icing sometimes can be too thick, too hard, but not at Pinky’s. Not enough theme based cupcake? Not at Pinky's. Pinky’s has a great variety of cupcakes and can prepare special ones on request. Think graduation, wedding, Christmas party, Halloween, etc. Pinky checks all the boxes. Pinky knows cupcakes, Pinky knows cookies, Pinky knows sandwich cookies, Pinky knows cakes, Pinky knows brownies.
How does Pinky know? Well, this diminutive miracle worker didn’t come by her success by accident. She travelled a long way to get here by way of Vietnam through Thailand to Lac du Bonnet and now here in Winnipeg. She has a secret to her success, but that’s for you to discover. You really need to make the trip to her and sample her treats.
With that said, the fact remains she has her finger on the pulse of what Manitobans crave or is it that she’s got her pinky on the pulse. Come try, you’ll love what she has to offer. You can even have a quick...
Read moreReview for anyone looking to book this vendor for their wedding:
After a month of attempted communication, a cake tasting, and a request for a cake for our specified wedding date Pinky's Bakeshop let us down. We had attempted to get in touch with the owner on numerous occasions and was given the runaround for 2-3 weeks. Our request was to book the vendor for our wedding date, however once the owner got back to us she notified us that she was booked for the weekend.
The excuse provided was that she finally got around to looking at the books and she had no availability. However, when we had our cake tasting this was not the case. We quickly put in a request for the cake, however, during that time she must have gone into the books and filled other orders with what she assumed were more lucrative opportunities. Therefore, I see this as a situation of incompetence or a an oblivious disregard for clients. Either way, it is unfortunate for the baksehop as we intended to order multiple other treat items for our guests.
Now, I hope that it is understood that this is an objective review as I am not mad, just disappointed to be strung along for a month. I would have booked a competitor weeks ago. I think we all know who I am talking about.
In terms of the products here... 2/5 stars is probably a fair rating. However, the service was so unprofessional that I had to round the overall rating down to be a representative figure. I was underwhelmed at the cake tasting, but decided to proceed as the cake at the wedding is low on my priority list.
At the end of the day, I would NOT recommend this business. It is mismanagement like this that establishes a reputation. As far as I am concerned, I would not want anyone I know wasting their time with a vendor who simply does not care about its clients.
If the owner/management would like to get in touch with me to provide a genuine/honest reason why this transaction went as it did I would reconsider. That being said, I am...
Read moreMy friends got their cake slab and cupcakes from here for their wedding. The communication between customer and business was TERRIBLE. For weeks they heard nothing despite numerous attempts to reach them after giving a deposit. When they finally got in touch they blamed a family emergency for the lack of contact. Inexcusable. A simple email stating such would have at least been SOMETHING. But they ignored them for weeks. Until two weeks before the event.
Skip to the day of the wedding. The slab and cupcakes arrive. The slab is nothing but fondant and a few piped swirly lines they wanted to charge $50 for. Swirly lines? At a $350 price tag overall, we expected something one of us COULDNT do. The cupcakes were supposed to be iced in fall colours(plums,gold/yellow, brown/bronze, orange). They were white, with odd tan 'flourishes' that I'm sorry, some looked like nipples. They called the lady and complained. She offered to come back, take the cupcakes and re-ice them, an hour out from dinner time. Ok fine. While in the kitchen re-icing them, AGAIN IN WRONG COLORS(green pink and orange..ok they got one out of three colors right) they proceeded to argue with the wedding planner that SHE was wrong, and that she should shut up. Seriously? That's how you talk to your customers? Hideously rude. Insisting they still deserve full payment. And that we have nothing on them, 'whatever it's just some emails' she said. Yeah. Emails. That's enough to show, in writing, that you're wrong.
The cupcakes were falling apart, the tops weren't even completely iced, the piping job was half assed, the buttercream was gross, the sugar free ones tasted like aspartame...I could go on. Suffice to say, your business is a disappointment and embarrassment of epic proportions. You should be ashamed. You may get to keep their deposit, but in my opinion they owe you nothing more....
