Sitting in the lounge at 6 pm on a Tuesday. I’ve counted at least 6 different employees, all finding the time to stand around and chat amongst themselves or with what look to be regulars. I normally wouldn’t have an issue with this however…

Our server came to our table twice in the 45 minutes we’ve been seated. We had to walk up to the bar to get refills on drinks. Our wings are only half seasoned despite asking for extra taco seasoning since they are regularly half plain. This could be easily rectified if the wings were properly tossed. Our table was dirty when we sat down, which isn’t a huge deal in the lounge, but there were two tables that cleared early on in our experience and were still not wiped down by the time we left. Our server went MIA for a good chunk of time, the table next to us even asked if she was still on shift, it was so long since she had last come to our tables. Our server offered us side plates and extra napkins shortly after we got our food, this never came.

Unfortunately, Smitty’s seems satisfied with poor customer service as this is something we regularly experience. We are strongly reconsidering this as our wing night go to.

Update Feb. 17 We were graciously offered a gift card so that we may give Smitty’s another chance. We have since gone back twice. We went in the lounge a few weeks ago and our server was great. He was very attentive and friendly. The wings were still not tossed in the seasoning but this was our only complaint.

We decided to go for our Valentine’s Day date night as well, choosing the dining room this time. It took us well over an hour and a half to complete our dining experience. We ordered 2 pounds of wings and the poutine week special. Neither our wings nor the fries for the poutine were tossed in seasoning. It took our server a good 10 minutes before even coming to greet us. When he did, he offered no apology. We didn’t see him again for another 15 minutes even though our drinks needed refreshing considering we had been at our table for almost a half hour at this point. Our server was not efficient with his time and we often went around 10-15 minutes between visits. We finished our food and waited another 10-15 minutes for our server to bring the bill which we waited 5-10 minutes for. We stated we had a gift card and we’re collecting points. It took him 5 minutes to come back with a tablet for the points and then he was unable to process the gift card and needed to get a manager. The manager was also unable to process the gift card which was provided by the establishment. It took us close to 20 minutes to get payment sorted out before we were allowed to leave while they figured out how to take payment.

When booking the reservation, the woman on the phone was so pleasant and helpful. I had pre ordered a slice of cake with a sparkler in advance to surprise my friend for her birthday. The experience was off to a great start. The wings were good and they came out quickly. My friend had to ask the server for water twice because they forgot. My friends obviously didn't know the cake was a surprise so they were asking for the dessert menu. The server asked me in front of them who made the reservation and after confirming it was me, she asked if we would like another dessert "besides the cheesecake?" I said no. After, she left my friends were confused but I couldn't explain it since it was supposed to be surprise. When the dessert finally arrived it didn't have a sparkler. The person who brought it out was not our server, she didn't mention anything about the sparkler and encouraged us to order another dessert since my friends were looking at the menu. They also didn't bring any spoons and our server was nowhere to be found so we weren't able to eat it right away and the ice cream melted. When ordering the second dessert we had asked about a sparkler and we were told that they ran out. That would have been good to mention when the first dessert was delivered. The manager had come by our table to let us know that they had ran out of sparklers a few days ago and they'll cover cheesecake. I do appreciate that which is why this review is 2 starts instead of 1. It doesn't make up for the fact that the server spoiled the surprise. I made the reservation 2 days in advance. There should have been a way to inform me had they run out and I would have brought my own supplies with no complaint. So yeah, I would not trust Smitty's with another birthday dinner ever again. On a side note: the parking here is atrocious. You'd think for such a big lot it wouldn't be hard to find parking. After reading previous reviews and hearing the accolades of quick service I’m wondering if I was at the same restaurant, twice now I’ve taken big groups to the same Smittys and both times I’ve been less then satisfied. I don’t believe smittys is capable of efficiently serving a group of more then 8, we were a group of 22 earlier and recently 14, both times the wait times were really really long, over a hour between ordering and serving, by the time the last person got their order the first ones were long finished and ready to leave. First group we figured eh we’re a big group so what if thy miss something here or there, the restaurant was quite busy so we just rolled with it. Second group was (not) good at all, were 14 of us and maybe 10 to 15 other customers, again well over a hour or so before we all got our orders and one was completely missed, we had one server between us who did everything from drinks to meals…..which was fine until we realized she was also serving other tables (and) running the bar at the same time, they were really understaffed. Food was pretty good but portion size seemed a bit small and fries where really sparse, some plates weren’t hot, like they’d been sitting and waiting someplace, Our server was friendly and cheerful but definitely too busy doing other things. I’m a big tipper and gladly do so but that last outing was a tough call, I have to earn...
