I decided to try Sun Fortune for Christmas Eve Chinese. First I will say that their service was excellent. They were clearly very busy (quite popular to order from here on holidays) but they were staffed appropriately and managed to make the order and pick up process very smooth and hastle free. I simply called a day in advance to place the order and it was smooth from there. They even have dedicated parking.
Onto the food. I ordered the sesame chicken, the chicken fried rice, and the chicken chow mein. Overall I was not very impressed with these dishes. The sesame chicken was not actually breaded, but instead had a coating of pure sesame seeds, rather than the regular way the dish is done with breading and sesame seeds sprinkled on. The sauce came separetely and was very oily and had a weird flavor. This was my least favorite and I honestly struggled to finish it. Would not recommend this dish. The chicken fried rice was average. Nothing special but not bad either. The chicken chow mein was also average in my opinion. Like some other reviews say, it was very oily. It also has mushrooms so be aware if you love or hate mushrooms. They aren't my favorite. The chow mein was actually better the next day as left overs oddly enough.
Overall the portion sizes were large, which is a plus for me when ordering Chinese, but the price was also a bit higher than other competing restaurants. The dishes I ordered were pretty big flops so I personally will go...

So, 8 dishes for a total of $129.99 including tip (minimum 10%, no choice!)
My verdict, pricey and possible over priced. I suspect they are consistent but the value for what is paid is below par and the portions are small for the price.
If you want this Hong Kong style cuisine (Chinese Food) you can find lower priced, bigger portions elsewhere, but taste and location are the best parts of this order.
Still looking for great Chinese food in the south...

I had high hopes walking into Sun Fortune given its reputation, but the experience fell completely flat — easily one of the most underwhelming meals I’ve had in Winnipeg.
Starting with the Peking Duck, which is supposed to be their crown jewel — it was anything but. The skin lacked the crispness you’d expect, and the meat itself was dry, lacking flavour, and frankly forgettable.
The Curry Chicken? Equally disappointing. Bland, watery, and totally devoid of the rich, aromatic depth that a proper curry should deliver. It tasted like someone waved a spice jar near the pot and forgot the rest.
As for the Spring Rolls, I genuinely don’t know how they managed to mess these up. They were utterly flavourless, dry inside, and the texture reminded me more of chewing on a stick than enjoying a crispy appetiser.
Overall, the meal was a complete letdown from start to finish — tasteless, poorly executed, and absolutely not worth the price. Safe to say I won’t be returning, and I’d advise anyone expecting quality Chinese cuisine to...
