My spouse's birthday dinner celebration was spoilt by the team at The Keg Restaurant, Fort Garry, Winnipeg Manitoba Canada location on August 28, 2025.
My bone-in rib steak which is supposed to be 20oz was the size of about 8oz. I asked the server Sherri E. if there was a mistake in my order and she said no, that's your rib steak. I said but you can see this is about 8oz and not 20oz? She said "well, I don't know what to do here", and then just walked away and didn't come back. I had no clue if she was going to do something. After five minutes, a man came and said he was the manager and tried to lecture me that when customers order Medium Well, the chef selects a thin steak and the steak also shrinks. I said but it won't shrink from 20oz to 8oz and that I have ordered the same steak in this restaurant for years and it has never been this tiny or thin. He then said I don't really know what the complaint is about, but we will change it.
I asked them to then change the steak to the same one my brother-in-law was having right beside me as his was the thickness I was looking for, and usually receive at The Keg. I also asked for it to be done Medium since the manager had just told me they select thin steaks when you order Medium Well. That's never been my experience before, but maybe that's the way The Keg is doing things now? But still, there is no way they gave me a 20oz ribsteak. To quote David Letterman, I know my cuts of meat.
When my food came back, it was the same exact steak that they served me the first time, and only this time, even smaller, since they hid that it was the first steak by cutting the bone off. The waitress just dropped it on the table and walked away. My brother-in-law, let out a huge laugh as they put the plate down as it was literally laughable at that point. It was still less than half the thickness of his steak, which I asked them to change it to.
I was shocked but other family members urged me to eat as they were all completely done their dinner and it had already turned into a dissappointing birthday dinner. I did. It was terrible, thin and completely way overdone, eventhough I changed to Medium from Medium Well, which then made me realize they just slapped the same steak back on the plate. At the end, I was made to pay full price for a very bad dinner. And a ruined family birthday dinner.
It's really too bad as our family often does birthday dinners at The Keg because it's always consistent. Good food, good service. My food was terrible, which can happen, but it was the lack of service or care to make it right that truly let us down. And they certainly did not want us to leave any other way than feeling awful for being...
Read moreThis was the first time my husband and I ever ate at a Keg and let me tell you the experience was definitely worth the bill.
Let me start off by saying they are going above and beyond to make sure everyone is safe and covid free while eating here. It was very nice to see the newly installed touchless bathrooms and they were very thorough when screening us as we entered.
Moving on, the service was stellar! When we first arrived we were seated in the patio which to be fair was quite busy, so we didn't get served as quickly as we'd have hoped, and ended up having to go back inside to request an indoor table. They were super accommodating to that, and brought us to a lovely table in the back. I had mentioned we were waiting a while outside and our server ended up comping our first round of drinks, which was unnecessary (because we are quite easygoing) but definitely appreciated! It was a very nice gesture to apologize for the wait.
Our servers name was Jaimie and he was just wonderful. Took care of everything we needed and then some, and made great conversation at the table. We made sure to leave a hefty tip for him and the kitchen because OH MY GOD, our meal was spectacular!
I'd like to specifically compliment the kitchen, as they took my husband's odd request of a 3 patty burger to the next level! It came out perfectly assembled, not greasy or falling over, it was just perfect! He devoured it within 10 minutes and couldn't stop complimenting it. He's not one who's easily impressed! I had a 12 ounce steak and the king crab, which admittedly was the most expensive thing on the menu, but was most definitely worth it. Everything was cooked to perfection and my steak came out exactly the way I'd asked.
So all in all, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for any type of event, so long as you keep in mind that the menu is quite outstanding, so the prices do reflect that. We had a delicious meal for 2 for around $100 with some leftover for home!
Please do yourself a favor and eat here! You will not...
Read moreReally disappointed in our experience tonight at the Keg. We used to be frequent Keg guests, but in recent years, the atmosphere, food, and service has declined.
I appreciated the hosts and their hospitality in being able to adjust my reservation for two people from 8:45 to 8:15 pm last minute.
There were several things we did not enjoy about our experience, a big one being the atmosphere. During our entire dining experience, we were both extremely cold. It felt as though we were seated right next to a door, even though there was no door in sight. Secondly, for 8pm at a restaurant, it sounded like we were seated in the bar during a Jets game. So unbelievably loud.
For my entree I ordered a steak cooked medium. That was clear and even our server agreed when I addressed this later. I was brought a rare steak at best. Blood and juices poured out of it lightly pressing with a fork, this was not great at all.
We had to ask another server to track down our server, I believe Deborah was her name, for us. She came and was willing to return the steak to the kitchen, and admitted the steak was definitely rare.
Fifteen minutes later I received my steak, now cooked medium. At this point we were just done and frustrated with our experience, we wanted the bill and wanted to leave. I did not eat the steak, ended up feeding it to my dog.
At other restaurants when you order multiple things and rack up a bill as we did, normally they will offer to correct this issue when it comes time for the bill. However that was never offered to us.
130$ meal between two people, and honestly dissatisfied and disappointed. For those of you who have read this far, I suggest researching some different up and coming restaurants we have here in town, as the Keg does not seem to hold the quality and experience...
