We had dinner at La Roca and unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown for our team. We started with both the chicken and pork chicharrones. Despite being deep-fried, they weren’t as crispy or flavorful as we had hoped—on the contrary, they were quite tough and oddly soggy. We also tried both the creamy habanero cucumber and chipotle sauces, but neither added much to the experience. On a more positive note, the guacamole was the highlight of the evening—fresh, well-seasoned, and thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. I ordered the steak tacos, but sadly, I couldn’t finish them. The steak had a soft, bouncy texture that strongly suggested it had been soaked in baking soda, which left an unpleasant aftertaste. My coworker, who’s not usually picky about textures, also agreed that the flavor didn’t hit the mark. If we had to recommend something, it would be the barbacoa enchiladas. Those were decent and much more satisfying. We finished the meal with churros. My coworkers liked them, especially with the chocolate and caramel sauces, but I personally found them a bit too greasy. They’re definitely best enjoyed while still hot. All in all, we appreciated the ambiance and the effort, but the food just didn’t meet our expectations. Hopefully, the restaurant will make some adjustments because the concept and location have potential.

Came for dinner with friends. The ambiance was really nice. Good music, nice decor. The staff seemed nicely dressed and reasonably well organized. Unfortunately the service was mediocre. It seemed like our server was new, so this could have been part of it. She was slow with drinks/refills etc. We asked about substitutions and it seemed like she didn’t really know what to do. The food. We had an Avocado Frito - deep fried avocado slices.$16; another 3.50 if you wanted two sauces. It was bland. The sauce was ok but didn’t add enough to make it interesting. The mains we tried were fish taco platter and barbacoa enchiladas. The platter lacked depth. The sides were boring. The fish tacos themselves were ok but light - left hungry. The enchiladas were ok, but the meat was overcooked and dry. Again sides (baked beans and rice) were lame. Overall the food was cold. The drinks were good. Had a zero proof grapefruit something. It was a very reasonable $6. My partner had a margarita for $15 - which was overpriced by about $4. Overall mediocre at best. Good place for a drink but I wouldn’t come for anything more.

Initial Visit We went to La Roca for Poutine Week. The poutine was a chili queso papas fritas, fries with queso cheese sauce and beef chili, topped with panko jalapenos. 3 🌟 Most of us didn't want to finish it (we were full from 4 other poutines) or pack it home (which meant no one really liked it that much). I did like the fact it was served on a grill. We went at a bad time as they were just transitioning to a bar. Service was not good as they didn't seem to care about people who were eating so much as preparing for the bar people. I read a lot of other peoples reviews complaining about it while we waited for service of some kind. It was a long wait from ordering to getting our food to getting our bill, we needed to prompt them every step of the way. I would give this place one more try, but we weren't impressed on this visit. La Roca is located downtown at the corner of Smith and York Ave. Parking is downtown parking which is often metered parking. There are some parking lots if you don't mind walking.

La Roca has undoubtedly become our go-to Mexican restaurant in Winnipeg this summer, and for all the right reasons! Our two visits have left us nothing short of amazed, and it's high time this gem gets the attention it truly deserves.

From the moment you step in, the warm and inviting ambiance sets the perfect tone for a delightful culinary experience. On both occasions, we were greeted with friendly smiles and attentive service, making us feel right at home.

The star of the show, undoubtedly, is their tableside Guacamole. It's not just a dish; it's an artful performance that culminates in a mouthwatering, perfectly balanced Guacamole that dances on your taste buds. Creamy avocados, zesty lime, diced tomatoes, and a hint of spice – each bite is a celebration of flavours.

When it comes to the main course, La Roca's tacos are nothing short of amazing. Bursting with authentic Mexican flavors, the diverse selection caters to every palate. Whether you're a fan of succulent grilled meats or prefer vibrant vegetarian options, these tacos are a true representation of culinary excellence.

Let's not forget the sides – they're not mere accompaniments, but star players in their own right. The attention to detail in dishes like the esquite and Mexican rice is evident, and they perfectly complement the main dishes.

A standout on their menu is the baked burrito – a behemoth of a dish that doesn't compromise on taste. Generously filled and bursting with hearty goodness, this dish is a value-packed indulgence that left us beyond satisfied.

And then, the grand finale – the churros. These golden sticks of perfection are crispy on the outside, delightfully soft on the inside, and coated in just the right amount of cinnamon-sugar. A drizzle of chocolate sauce completes the symphony of flavors, leaving your taste buds singing with joy.

Now, it's worth mentioning that we were pleasantly surprised by the lack of crowded tables. While we appreciate the quieter dining experience, it's a bit baffling considering the culinary treasures La Roca has to offer. Yes, downtown Winnipeg might have had its reputation concerns, but rest assured, La Roca is situated in a safe and accessible area.

In conclusion, if you're a lover of Mexican cuisine, La Roca is an absolute must-visit. The combination of exceptional food, attentive service, and cozy ambiance make for an unforgettable dining experience. Don't let the under-the-radar status fool you – this is a gem that deserves to shine brightly in the culinary scene of Winnipeg. Our sincere encouragement goes out to everyone seeking a true Mexican culinary journey – give La Roca a try, and you'll find yourself planning your next visit before you've even...

After reading some of the reviews we were skeptical to go but decided to give it a try regardless.

We had a reservation for 3 and were originally seated at a table for 2 which was too small for our group. All we had to do was tell the server we needed a bigger table and they searched the entire restaurant to find one for us. The restaurant was busy but it literally took 1 minute of waiting for them to find us new seats. If you arent happy with something or need something changed SPEAK UP, the servers cant read your mind and if you dont express your concerns and issues then they dont have the opportunity to rectify them.

The service was great, we got our drinks and refills quickly and the server explained the menu to us right away. We ordered the table side guac and it was prepared right in front of us. There was more than enough guac for 3 people, and the server did offer us more chips, but we arent sure if there was a charge for that (we declined the offer for more). We each ordered different tacos with different sides. We had mixed reviews on the sides ( Torilla soup, esquite, mexican rice, and spicy baked beans) some of us liked our sides some didnt. The torilla soup had a strong tomato paste taste and seemed under seasoned. All of the sides seemed a bit bland but nothing a little hot sauce couldnt fix.

The tacos were good, although all 3 of us agreed that our meat was a little dry, and there wasnt much sauce/salsa on the tacos. They were surprisingly filling for what you might think is a small order. They are comparable to BMC market in taste, just not in price.

Overall we had a good night and the service was great. The other reviews may have been from when the restaurant first opened but it seems most of those kinks have been worked out. We would definitely go...

Gave this place multiple tries and unfortunately was let down each time. Staff is rude, catty, and acts like they’re above their customers. Wait time is ridiculous whether you’re getting seated, or ordering food or drink. It’s easy to be ignored. Food was simply decent... even less than decent when I noticed the staff picking at the tortilla chips with their dirty hands, snacking on them and then serving them to us! Too bad, because the chips were my favorite (I warn people now because that’s just unsanitary). Music is obnoxiously loud. I understand near the evening they try to become a club but even before then it’s difficult to get any conversation in (disappointing since our workplace once booked a table for a casual lunch meeting early afternoon where we were told it would be less busy and quiet enough for our discussions) the restaurant was barely half full, but when we asked if there was a better place for us to be seated so we could chat, the waitress sharply told us “well, we’re busy. you’re booked to sit here, and it’s loud everywhere” complete with an eye roll. We were there 2hrs and hardly any of the empty tables were occupied between the time we sat and left. Not the first time staff came off to us with a sour attitude. My Mexican friend made a simple comment about his tacos and a waitress became very defensive, attempting to explain to him that traditional tacos in Mexico are this and that... completely disregarding what he said and the fact that he was born and raised among authentic Mexican cuisine! Maybe one day I will return if they hire completely new staff or learn how to properly care for customers, but other than that, SO SO SO DISAPPOINTED and DO NOT RECCOMEND. Try Taco Bell for a...
