We strolled thru the market and were greeted by an older gentleman who could communicate in most any language. He was so engaging and spoke of famous people eating there “twice”. I promised to come back the next day. When we returned, we were again warmly greeted but once seated, we were no longer so important. The calamari starter was under cooked and rubbery. The King Crab (centolla) was the main and it was very large, but not well presented. Our waiter brought the crab and left it on the table for 5 minutes while serving others in a largely empty, pre lunch Saturday time period. I started to attempt to prepare it when suddenly someone appeared. Expensive and not memorable. Going to the central market in Santiago is on everyone’s list, but it was not really deserving of a...

DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. We regret not checking Google reviews before visiting the Mercado Central. Unfortunately, the experience was awful: the food made us sick, and the quality was far below that of other typical Chilean restaurants.

We are convinced the fish we were served as congrio was not actually congrio. The place advertises itself as an “authentic market experience,” with cats walking around the restaurant, but in reality it feels unsanitary and careless — while charging up to €20 per dish.

We made the mistake of assuming that the high prices and the restaurant’s reputation meant decent quality and sanitary standards. Sadly, we were wrong. We will be reporting this to the sanitary...

Located inside Mercado Central, Donde Augusto although a tourist spot, is a local institution, serving seafood specials with efficiency and quality. The clams with cheese were fresh and perfectly cooked - moist with slightly crunchy cheese. The ceviche Augusto y a mix of Peruvian and sea bass ceviche which can be ordered separately. Every customer gets a basket of freshly baked bread and a tomato sauce. Prices at Donde Augusto are slightly higher than other spots, with mains ranging between 15,000 CHP to 30,000 CHP. The service is attentive and incredibly efficient. One of the best spots for fresh seafood in Santiago's...
