I have always wanted to try out Camper’s for quite some time. It is a really popular Japanese style restaurant in Quarry Bay, and you can often see a queue outside the restaurant.
I really like Camper’s principal. If you dine out 5 days a week for dinner, you would probably be in-taking a lot of MSG and food additives. Also, you might not be eating enough vegetables for dietary fibers. Therefore, Camper’s aims to serve all natural dishes with homemade sauce and dressing, without using MSG or food additives.
I was craving for meat as I didn’t have any for lunch. Therefore, I ordered this Slow Cooked Pork Cartilage and Veggie Curry with Mixed Rice instead of the signature 15 Kinds One Day Portion Veggie Curry Rice.
I could see why people like Camper’s so much, and I have become a fans too! The slow cooked pork cartilage was so delicious! It’s very tender, almost felt like melting on your tongue. I love the soft tissues so much, which was jelly like and rich in collagen. As for the rice, oh my god, I wonder how much effort they put to make such a nutritious rice! Sweet potato, pumpkin, corn and ginger, so yummy and healthy! You can actually taste a hint of those in the rice. The curry was very decent too, not too spicy, and went well with the sauce of pork cartilage. The veggies were, oh well, veggies. But yeah, they were good, so even a veggie hater like me finished them all happily with the help of curry and sauce.
I am sure I would definitely visit again to try out the signature 15 Kinds One Day Portion Veggie Curry Rice and probably the udon, especially when the restaurant is so close to gym!
Bare in mind one thing, the waitresses have got an attitude, so don’t expect much from their...
Read moreDidn't have enough time to cook due to water suspension at home, my family and I visited this resto for dinner. . I got Mushroom Eggplant and Beef Ribs Curry with Mixed Rice. The dish got an abundant amount of mushrooms, and the eggplant became juicy after soaking the curry. The beef ribs were soft and succulent. The mixed rice consisted of sweet potato, pumpkin and corn rice, creating a healthy combination.
My sis ordered Slow Cooked Pork Cartilage and Vege Curry with Mixed Rice. It offered a wide range of vege, including broccoli, courgettes, cauliflower, carrots, beans. Normally, she was not a big fan of vegetables. However, the curry sauce covered the bitterness of the vege. The pork cartilage was tender too.
My dad had Beef Ribs and Vege Black Sesame Curry with Mixed Rice. The colour of the curry looked really dark with the black sesame, and the black sesame fit in the curry nicely.
My mom got Slow Cooked Pork Cartilage Rice Set. It was served with lots of salad vegetables, and the pork cartilage was savoury and tender. The dish came with a small bowl of soup as well. . The resto claimed that it didn't add any MSG and food additives to their dishes. Plus, all sauce and dressing were homemade, so they offered healthy options for the customers. . The resto was quite popular, one might need to go there...
Read moreCamper’s has a simple menu consisting of Japanese curry rice and noodle dishes. My 4 star rating is based on the following:
Food: 4 stars Service/Environment: 3 stars Value: 5 stars Recommended dish: pork and vegetable curry with rice
I have tried both the noodle and the rice sets and the rice dishes are by far superior. A popular recommendation is the vegetable curry. If you are vegetarian than that is a tasty choice, but if you like meat than order a mix of meat and vegetable curry. The special pork (item 1 on the lunch set) is really good. The pork is fall off the bone tender and you just need a fork to cut the meat. The pork tastes like it is coming from the shank so you get a mixture of meat and tendon. At 69 hkd for the rice set plus a drink it really is a great deal.
This place is really small and seating is limited. You will need to share a table with strangers if you eat here. Lots of places in Hong along are like this so this doesn’t bother me much. If you want more privacy then this may not be the place forDuring lunch hours you will need to wait so get here before 12 if you don’t want to...
