The ambience and décor are the only things done right in this rare find yoshoku restaurant in HK. Yoshoku, literally means western food in Japanese, serves western food such as pasta with an Asian touch. It is unique to the Japanese cuisine culture. Desserts and drinks are a crucial part of the experience.
Choubo kissaten uses authentic japanese ingredients but the overall experience is mocking. I have seen salad added to the side of rice but never on top of. The heat of the rice made the salad socky and mixing salad dressing and the pork sauce is just criminal. The portion is also on the small side for its price. ($118 hkd) The kakuni (braised pork belly) was the only thing done right foodwise. Seasoning done right, a bit on the overcooked side but I can forgive with everything else going on.
You get a set meal deal if you pay and extra $28. A dish of hardboiled potato mixed with miracle whip added with a dash of mentaiko is not what I expected.
The peach soda has a very faint taste of peach and not even sweet to begin with. It is very similar to the flavoured vitamin water you find in supermarkets.
Servers are nice but cursing and using profanity on the side in their own conversation. Not that I care but it doesn't go well with the whole bougie vibe.
Overall it was a very underwhelming meal. I didnt get to the dessert after a disappointing lunch served. Try with caution. You have...

My partner and I visited on an early Sunday evening and were immediately impressed by the spacious, comfortable seating and the restaurant's eclectic decor, which features a stunning collection of rare books, wooden toys, and beautiful paintings.
The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, helping us secure a large table that was perfect for our meal. We started with the deep fried pork over rice and the soft shell crab over omelette rice, both of which were absolutely delicious - the flavors were authentic and the portions were very generous. To top it off, we enjoyed a refreshing iced green tea smoothie that was the perfect complement to our meal.
What really sets Choubo Kissaten apart, however, is its commitment to being pet-friendly. As animal lovers, we were thrilled to be able to bring our pup along and enjoy our meal together. The value for the quality of food and the overall experience was unbeatable. I highly recommend this unique and wonderful Japanese spot to anyone...
Read moreTerrible. Ordered the mussels and fries but somehow the butter sauce has no taste and the mussels tasted bad. Also cold inside and hot on the outside. How does that even happen? On top of that, in the photo you see shows some kind of questionable clumped up gelatanous substance. I don’t understand how someone can make such a terrible dish. Maybe they just took it out from the freezer, microwaved it a little and called it a day? 😂 Also ordered the macha smoothie. Also terrible. Had a very slimy texture. It was also dense enough that it should be a dessert instead, but even then it would be a terrible dessert... I was very impressed with how someone can come up with such terrible drinks and food. As for the ambiance, at first glance it seems nice, but close up you can see a lot of cracks. Small bugs on the table and both the waiters have stains everywhere on their suit. Like it hasn’t been washed in a year. How does this place survive with all the obvious cost-cutting? It’s kind...
