A hidden gem in Quarry Bay. Both the staff and clientele here are Japanese and that's always a good sign for good Japanese food. The menu is akin to shokudos in Japan and they serve up a variety of ramens and teishokus. The décor is humble and homey with football/rugby jerseys lining the walls along with some miscellaneous Japanese décor about Hokkaido. The staff were really friendly and were knowledgeable about the food. We had gotten a karaage set, a hamburg steak set, stir fried vegetables and a kakiage. The karaage was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The hamburg steak was amazingly juicy and pair very well with the radish sauce and topping. The stir fried veggies were also great; fresh veggies with a pleasant sauce fresh from the wok. Lastly, the kakiage was the star of the dinner; super hot and crispy and the amount of onions in it made it sweet and delicious. 10/10. I will definitely come...
Read moreMy Japanese coworker recommended this place to me. His wife who isn’t really a big ramen lover was a big fan of this place. The first time I came here I ordered a rice set and really didn’t think the food was anything special.
My rating is based on:
Food: 4 stars Service/environment: 3 stars Value: 4 stars Recommendations: miso ramen, fried chicken
This time around I ordered to miso rich ramen and had a totally different experience. If you come here you need to order the ramen dishes. The soup is a bit on the salty side but it was rich, and full of umami flavor. The ramen doesn’t come with an egg so that is a must add on. The soft boiled egg was done properly and came with a semi runny orange yolk.
I also added on the larvae fried chicken and I would recommend this as well. The karate here is really quite good. Will come back when I can get out of the office for an...
Read moreThis is an authentic Japanese restaurant from Hokkaido, with decor and menu items that evoke a genuine Japanese atmosphere, and the staff are Japanese-speaking (they can understand Cantonese and English). The signature dish on the first page of the menu is ramen, but I found it to be just average and a bit salty (possibly because Hokkaido ramen tends to be on the saltier side).
However, their rice bowls and set meals are quite impressive. For example, the scrambled egg pork cutlet rice and curry are excellent, served with salad, side dishes, and miso soup. Each meal costs around $90-$100. While there are cheaper lunch options nearby, this price is reasonable for the authentic Japanese...
