We were brought by the scent of fried chicken, which you can smell from Hollywood Road. Chicken Waffle is great! Juicy fried Chicken, waffle is crispy on the outside yet moist when you cut it. The plate has a nice color and rightly seasoned, not too salty when you put on butter and syrup.
Fried Cauliflower is yum! Cauliflower fried well and juicy as you cut it, feels like chicken! The crust was well seasoned with Buffalo sauce and not overly tangy yet still punchy.
Our Wedge Salad came in late for good reasons. Friendly staff told us the kitchen was running crazy (probably understaffed due to COVID as I guess, he spoke in Cantonese with a twang “少少冧檔”). But after it came, it matches our expectation. Lovely garnishes of pickled shallot, bacon, blue cheese, mustard (honey?) sauce, cherry tomatoes. Filled within sheets of lettuce leaves for flavor bite after bite. It would have been a nice kicker to start off our meal, but this time it’s a wrapper for the day.
As we ask for the bill, they waived off the Wedge Salad. We couldn’t believe they give away a nice dish for free (for being late?) so we paid extra tips. Genuine staff smiled back and waved bye. All restos are struggling these days in HK and we hope a quality joint like Honky Tonks can survive in this storm. See you guys next time! We shall try the tater tots...
Read moreThis is one of my favourite restaurants in Hong Kong. It’s got the magical combination of genuine hospitality, lovely people, and consistently delicious food. They’re constantly coming up with fun new dishes to complement their classics, an unbeatable selection of American comfort food. The restaurant is always full of good energy and great music, and the staff is super kind and thoughtful. It’s where I go when I’m missing Brooklyn.
My biggest issue is having food FOMO and not knowing what to pick. But you can’t go wrong with the fried chicken, tater tots (potato gems), white trash pizza, and whatever is the special of the day. Besides the food, the bar team is crazy inventive and always has amazing, unconventional cocktails up their sleeves. You can just defer to them to whip up something delicious.
I cannot recommend Honky Tonks more, it’s a place I’ll go back to...
Read moreAs a fan of Shady @theshadyacres I have always wanted to try their sister bar @honkytonkstavern too! Finally got a chance to try for happy hour before our dinner plan on a Friday evening!
First of all, I was shock by how spacious it actually is inside, I thought it is a small corner bar as it was tucked away in a small alley ! once I got in, I was in love with this cozy vibe. They have happy hour from 5-7pm just like shady. I opted their daily hard slushie, taste pretty good. As we have dinner plan after, we only tried few snacks like abodo chicken wings, tator tots and the devils eggs. Food was luscious and their staffs were friendly as well.
I would like to come try more food next time, maybe mussels, meats and pizzas!
Around $300pp 4pax (Including the mentioned snacks, two bottle of wine, few HH drinks, really...
